just dont get comfortable,, most states only allow a THREE-FIVE Year maximum per LIFETIME of assistance,,,at an average of less than 12 grand a year,, thats 36000 per lifetime. Now, average that into a lifetime of working at least 40 years, and paying one grand per year in taxes (which would be for those earning the bare minimum) and you still havent really received anything FREE.. you have just repaid it over your lifetime.

Funny thing is to, as when I was on it and finally got my sons dad in court he had to REPAY the state back for what they gave me. His arrears. So really most people "borrow" money from the state. Not only that I have worked since I was 15 years old. I have paid my taxes. If I am in a pinch and need help from my state, then I should be able to without getting called a crackhead.

I mean I can't believe that people on welfare are more of a concern than people ripping of social security or people on unemployment sitting on their butts not looking for work. But I guess some priorities are more than others. lol

This is the amount that the state of Alabama gives you per month. I mean wow, talk about living in the lap of luxery.

Can you say one term hack!

Obama is going to be another Jimmy Carter.

Does that mean that one of our most honest presidents we have ever had is bad because his morals would not allowing him to lie so much?

Honest President? Really? Is that why everything is a back room deal away from cameras with this guy? Give me a break.

I have been gone for a while but I am curious how many of you know how many congressmen read the Patriot Act before they passed it? Shalom...Miles

It's nice to know that poor people are hated so much. Why don't you just go ahead and get your gun and kill all the single moms and single dads working very hard to keep a roof over their kids head. That way you won't have to keep b!tching about "supporting" them.

Single moms and dads working their ***** off is a FAR cry from the welfare recipients who sit around getting high ( by selling off food stamps for cash ) and popping out kids.

I was on welfare and I didn't do such a thing. Quit sterotyping people. It does nothing but make you look like an arsehole.

I made no stereotype.

I've actually KNOWN people like that.

If you weren't one of them, then my statement doesn't apply to you.

Like I said, there is a BIG difference between someone who uses the system until they find a way to help themselves, and the ones who do NOTHING at all to help themselves and rely on the system for their livelihood with no intentions of changing anything.

Your daughter wont be covered by this bill, just like I wont be covered for my bulging disc and irritated nerves. I finally have insurance through my work that I have earned and paid for that is helping relieve the pain and now I am going to lose that for coverage that wont take care of me or my pain. Hell it wont even cover the pain medication and steroids I have to take monthly to even function. Yea that's fair.

I actually was able to get off my *** and work for and earn my benefits. If I can do it in the extreme pain I was in anyone else can.

Regarding pain - easier said then done. Not everyone's pain threshold works the same way and ASSumptions get people in trouble. Believe me, I can deal with pain that leaves a fair amount of guys cringing, wimpering and rolling on the floor. And not say a word. I also know guys who flip out over a minor papercut. But I would never ASSume that they should work through their pain, because I know it can and will leave someone totally crippled, physically and mentally, and for many, emotionally too.

Not all jobs carry insurance. Mine doesn't. They won't be getting it anytime soon. COBRA wanted $500.00 a month. I certainly don't have that much left over after I pay bills and feed myself. $40.00 is my extra money, and that's usually into the gas tank for 2 weeks. So, how would you like me to get insurance? At this point, I can't even get into the local dentistry teaching college for them to take care of my teeth and sinus cavity. I'm running the risk of any infection hitting my brain and dropping me dead, but I'm still chit outta luck according to the doctors there.

I voted Obama in because of health care. I am irritated at the health insurance part, but if it gets the ball rolling, then so be it. I think health care should be part of this country, and no one should have to worry about whether we can get it or not.

amen,, noone should have to choose between being homeless or being ill(or dead).. not in such a "GREAT" and wealthy country

They will no longer have to make that choice.

Now they can have BOTH.

What a GREAT country.

The American people won on this one, not the legislatures.

I think that in November we will see that the Americans who were buying into the craziness of the fearmongering and hatemongering throng will have shaken off the delusions of hate and fear and see things for what really are, a good starting point for our countries citizens to have health care.

Remember that this bill brings down the amount of people utilizing the ER as health care by a whole bunch and that was the most of the outrageous cost in healthcare on which the tax payers were burdened.

Ya know...if that ( the costs coming down ) actually begins to happen, then I'll be more than happy to support the system.

However, if there is no change, except higher taxes, and the unemployment rate stays above double digits with no end in sight, then the Dems are gonna be in a WORLD of trouble.

They had better hope that Americans start seeing some REAL improvements because, if not, there is a good chance that the Republicans will win enough seats currently occupied by Dems to repeal that bill.

Of course, the funny thing about repeal is, the additional taxes won't actually go away WITH the bill...lol

You do know that this same fearmongering happened for Medicare?

And I believe it may have happened for Social Security too.

We haven't become a third world country from either of those either.
