I always wonder why FAITH is such a difficult thing for people or why so many are so BENT on discrediting the good book,,,
I found this excellent read on the subject,,, http://www.bible-researcher.com/tozer1.html this is my favorite paragraph which says so much Right here I expect some readers to enter strenuous objections, and for reasons not hard to find. Christianity today is man-centered, not God-centered. God is made to wait patiently, even respectfully, on the whims of men. The image of God currently popular is that of a distracted Father, struggling in heartbroken desperation to get people to accept a Saviour of whom they feel no need and in whom they have very little interest. To persuade these self-sufficient souls to respond to His generous offers God will do almost anything, even using salesmanship methods and talking down to them in the chummiest way imaginable. This view of things is, of course, a kind of religious romanticism which, while it often uses flattering and sometimes embarassing terms in praise of God, manages nevertheless to make man the star of the show. ...... As the pillar of fire gave light to Israel but was cloud and darkness to the Egyptians, so our Lord's words shine in the hearts of His people but leave the self-confident unbeliever in the obscurity of moral night. |

I believe Jesus answers this question in chapter 13 of the book of Matthew. It can be understood by me in one word; Unbelief. Matthew 17:20, Mark 6:6, Mark 9:24, Mark 16:14, and Romans 3:3.

A little prayer before reading, for some understanding will help. As long as the understanding is to glorify God and not us, I believe he will indeed grant us understanding. Say one asks of the Lord to explain what the Bible means by "the four corners of the earth" which many have interpreted in years past to mean the world is flat, and many were persecuted because of this error. What if it really means the four corners of a map? Same thing goes with the four winds. There can be an explanation, we have to ask for wisdom. For his glory not ours. If the answer never arrives in this life, don't worry about it. He is coming and the rewards are coming with him.
