some simple numbers for INTELLIGENT DEBATE,,, any interest?

' Bush’s lowest annual deficit was just under $158 billion in fiscal 2002. It reached nearly $459 billion in the fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2008, and, as we mentioned, was on track to reach $1.2 trillion by the time Obama took office.' www.factcheck.org

--ok 158 bill to 1.2 trill A NEARLY TEN FOLD DEFICIT INCREASE IN SEVEN YEARS WITH NO RECESSION, OR THREAT OF BANKING AND AUTOMITIVE INDUSTRY COlLAPSE , RIGHT?

'The simple fact is that Obama inherited a federal deficit of $1.2 trillion on the day he was sworn in last year. Barely two weeks earlier, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office issued its regular "Budget and Economic Outlook" document, stating:

CBO, Jan. 2009: The federal fiscal situation in 2009 will be dramatically worse than it was in 2008. Under the assumption that current laws and policies remain in place (that is, not accounting for any new legislation), CBO estimates that the deficit this year will total $1.2 trillion, more than two and a half times the size of last year’s' www.factcheck.org

'The long term budget picture, meanwhile, is brighter than previously thought. The total deficit for 2010-2019 is now projected to be $6.7 trillion; in August, the CBO estimated it would be $7.1 trillion. ' www.marketwatch.com

--- OK. 1.2 trill, to 7.1 trill, SLIGHTLY MORE THAN A FIVE FOLD INCREASE IN DEFICIT OVER NINE YEARS, after helping banking and automotive industry recover

I still think my vote was a good one, better than the atlernative, and I am still supporting this presidents decisions

Dear Lady 'lindyy',

With all due respect, I find it hard to believe that you started this thread «... hoping for intelligent, honest opinion and debate...»

In closing, many here 'hope for' intelligent, honest and facts backed opinions and statements, potentially leading to stimulating debates.

Now, let the teachers apply their own lessons.

Well, Mr. V....for someone who does not reside in the USA....that is all that needs to be said........

BUT, is it not a little demeaning on YOUR part to ".....With all due respect, I find it hard to believe that you started this thread «... hoping for intelligent, honest opinion and debate...»

What a clever way to demean someone's intellect......just what are you insinuating Mr. V?

Dear Lady 'lindyy',

I will forgive for you what could easily be taken as a most uncivilized comment you wrote at my expense:

«... for someone who does not reside in the USA... that is all that needs to be said...».

With the busy life you must lead, you most probably forgot that you were posting in a PUBLIC forum of the WORLD WIDE WEB!!! That's WORLD, Lady 'lindyy', NOT the USA-WIDE-WEB!!!
Now, 'that is all that needs to be said...' ... on that one!!!

As for your suggestion that I might be demeaning in my statements, ironically, that is exactly what characterizes your own overall 'demeanor' on this thread, to only name one of several.

You state that you 'hope for' and request from others, specific standards of honesty, accuracy and rigor (rather pretentious and arrogant IMO), yet you, through your own opinions, comments, and counter arguments with others, consistently fail to observe those very standards.
In this specific instance, where you suggest my statement to be demeaning, is a perfect example. A typical case of projection.

With respect to your last question, I want to reassure you. I am not insinuating anything.

If one authentically 'hopes for' an 'intelligent, honest opinion and debate', 'CIVIL response', 'with correct and current information and facts being cited', as you stated yourself, one MUST first adhere to such standards.

Thus, when you invite us to participate in this specific thread, with an opening statement that is both false and calumnious, you are failing, in this instance, to follow your own standards Lady 'lindyy'. No insinuation.

Stating fact is NOT bashing..........noway noway noway

Whatever, but it is my understanding that you are not exactly liking any of the opinions that are against your own...which well defeats the purpose of a debate because there will never be a conclusion that everyone can agree on. Which reminds me of why I stay the hell away from this part of the forum.

******************************************

I do not have to like someone else's opinion, nor do they have to like mine..........but we are each entitled to our own opinion and state them. A debate does not prove who is wrong or who is right......which I think you want me to state you are right and I am wrong, which is a totally absurd thing to expect.................

no it wasn't . and the bankers that he saved aren't going to vote for him either .

there was a deficit well before OBama took office actually. Quite naturally , based on the money spent immediately on bailouts, it wasnt as high, however the deficit also increased under the previous administration , so the issue is not exclusive to OBama.

False statement again.

Is it an obsessive compulsive reflex???

Does your religion forbid you to make the simplest of searches through 'google'???

Or are some people just enjoying being annoying???

The premise of this whole thread is founded on a false premise:

«... The deficit Obama inherited on taking office last month was $1.3 trillion.» Hans Nichols, Bloomberg.

We posted the facts...the RW are sooo ready to blame President Obama for their mistakes...the US suffered the worst I've seen in my lifetime....but it's what RW nutbags do....I recall Jummy Carter who once said:

"Too many of us now tend to worship self-indulgence and consumption. Human identity is no longer defined by what one does but by what one owns"(a)

After 9-11 the Dippic said, go out and spend, don't worry..he since lied us into these wars...and the cost so far? $968 BILLION.(b) Add the discretionary spending as well:

"The increase in discretionary spending—that is, all
nonentitlement programs—in Bush’s first term was 48.5
percent in nominal terms. That’s more than twice as large
as the increase in discretionary spending during Clinton’s
entire two terms (21.6 percent), and just higher than
Lyndon Johnson’s entire discretionary spending spree
(48.3 percent).(c)

To date (adding 2005 to 2009) it ends up as a 104% increase in discretionary spending.(d)

"Some also argue that much of the increase in nondefense spending stemmed from increases in homeland security spending. Whether this is true, the overall rapid rise of discretionary spending indicates that, here too, the administration and Congress made no trade-offs in the budget. If the administration and Congress wanted more security spending and wanted to be fiscally responsible, they should have found savings elsewhere in the budget"(d)

Yeah President Obama inherited a nightmare...I am glad he has plans, the other party...you know the one that OWNS this damage? Well they have no plans...well...except this of course:(e)
