"Prosecutors not likely to decide until February whether to file charges"

ASPEN, Colo. - Prosecutors say they probably won’t decide until February whether to file charges against actor Charlie Sheen in an alleged domestic violence case in Aspen.

Sheen was arrested Christmas Day on suspicion of menacing, second-degree assault and criminal mischief. Authorities haven’t identified the alleged victim, but numerous reports say the actor and wife Brooke Mueller had a heated fight at a dinner party.

Authorities say Sheen is accused of using a weapon in the alleged incident. Police spokeswoman Stephanie Dasaro did not provide details on what kind of weapon Sheen is accused of using.

Chief Deputy District Attorney Arnold Mordkin said Monday the menacing charge is the most serious, usually carrying a sentence of two to eight years in prison and a fine of $2,000 to $500,000.

Mordkin says Sheen’s next court appearance is Feb. 8, and no decision on whether to prosecute him is expected until shortly before that.

The 44-year-old star of “Two and a Half Men” is free on $8,500 bond. His lawyer didn’t immediately return a call Monday.

And we just started getting numb to the Tiger Woods Circus. Oy! This whole thing stinks, and the D.A. knows it. Another example of our corrupt justice system at work.

Celebs get in trouble like everyone else. Sorry to know Charlie is about to go through it, but somehow I dont believe he will lose any work(unlike others).

On a brighter note,, two and a half men is a HILARIOUS show on which he does an excellent job.

possibly,,,,,but will he be labeled scum and his work blacklisted or will he serve his sentence and be permitted to move on,,,,,,

I think he was already seen as scum but for some reason he is thought of as a "bad boy" and I think that is why the movies and tv want him. more of a scandal type thing. I love 2 and 1/2 men and he plays the "bad boy" on there. I don't think he'd be convincing as a good boy laugh

Also, note, you can be innocent, and do nothing wrong, and still get in trouble. Curious that the D.A. won't know until February of 2010 whether or not to file charges. Sounds like the quaint city of Aspen messed up, and they are trying to decide if their flimsy circumstantial evidence will hold up in court. About the arrest, he was picked up fast and rather inconveniently on Christmas morning. He lawyered up fast and got out on Friday. Most of the rest of us would have languished in jail until Monday to be able to go before a judge and post bail. This system sucks!

I totally understand. As an MJ fan, I see how people can never be proven to be guilty and still be guilty in the public eye. So innocence and guilt are more than just legal terms when it comes to consequencs.

I am with you yellow. I could never be 'famous' for long because there is no price they could pay me that would make me feel obligated to share my personal life with others.

me neither, If I were a Clinton, or a Tiger Woods, I would be saying 'thats noones business" or 'thats private' or 'ask me about my job,, not my life' so often the media would probably hate me.

Believe it or not, in Colorado you can be arrested for giving someone a "threatening" look, or by calling them too much, or calling them a name like the B-word. In fact, there need not be any physical evidence at all, just suspicion and her accusation. That's all they need for them to haul you away. Great country, huh?

An "Angry Look" is now considered Menacing. Taking the credit card away is considered Economic Domestic Violence. Telling your wife to stop spending money is considered a mode of Control Domestic Violence. Telling your wife that her food sucks is considered Emotional Domestic Violence.

Just about anything is Domestic Violence. Look up all the definitions and you will find that a man can be thrown in jail and charged with DV for ANY of the above infractions.

Just be careful and walk on eggshells and say "Yes Dear" all day and all night long. And whatever you do.....don't get mad and knock something over......that is considered Menacing Domestic Violence as well.....

Oh yeah....Don't call her over 5 times if she goes out with the girls and does not come home that night.....you won't be seen as concerned......that is considered Harassment Domestic Violence.

But if she wacks you in the face...chases you out of the house and smashes your car window in with a 9 iron....she won't go to jail....but you will for MAKING her do it.

I'm sorry, I've heard Brooke's 911 call, and she was drunk out of her mind, and had been arguing with Charlie for several hours. I'm not inclined to believe her biased accusation.

Are you aware of Sheen's 1996 conviction for assault? Of how he settled out of court for allegedly hitting a woman who refused to have sex with him? Of phone transcripts entered under oath in a complaint filed by his first wife Denise Richards where he uses hyper-abusive and threatening language?

Given his history, I don't see how the police could have risked NOT responding in the manner they did. Besides, when someone is as drunk as the article states, why argue with them at all? It's smarter to just walk away before the conflict escalates.

I thought he had given up drinking, and all that went with him, as usually does when people stop.

Ya know....it's shite like this that just bugs the hell out of me.

With all the crap going on in this country, MAJOR problems get pushed to the back burner because people are SO concerned about what's happening with a person who's on TV.grumble

Millions of people lose their jobs....hundreds of thousands lose their homes....

BUT WAIT.

We HAVE to know what the latest gossip is.

It's no wonder this country is getting progressively dumber.
