I think you'd do well to read the constitution and the bill of rights before they were amended to appease the rich, and maybe you'd also gain some knowledge reading the annotated codes written prior to our democracy being over ridden by surbanites who forgot the blood that was spilled to allow them to live there......as to the rights to bear arms, granted, so open the military instead of the prisons for petty *** crimes, like they used to do in the sixties, many of those wayward souls died for your habitat and many still went on to lead very productive lives as good citizens.....apples and oranges, we could debate it all day, but it seems useless when you are stuck in a world of black and white, the law is the law right, but who makes them, surely not the majority.

Unfortunately people are used to the dichotomous thinking method.

What is that suppose to mean? I quoted that because it has the date 1795, the constitution was written 4 years earlier. That shows that in that time period the term bare arms meant to serve in a military/ milita. There is even a Supreme Court case in the 1800s that stated a man may carry a rifle every day to hunt for food and would not have been said to bare arms. I guess you just don't think highly of people having the intelligence and forethought to try to interpret laws for how they were written, and then show evidence of this. (this was my idea, but I wanted to show factual data to support it.. but I guess that isn't good in your book either) I guess people should just see them for how they want them to be.

(you called the other lady out for not citing her source, and when I cite one you just insult... what a good debater)

This topic is a neverending arguement that can't be won.

I refuse to live a lie and pretend to be straight just to do what other people expect of me. I was brought up to be honest and live my life in the way that makes me happy.

I turned away from religion because it wouldn't allow me to do that. I would have been able to be gay as long as I did not have a relationship with a man, so I would have been lonely and single for the rest of my life. (Unless I married a woman that I had no feelings for and lived my life as a lie.)

At least now, I am a gay man with a chance at a future with a guy.

The desire to be loved is natural. We all battle with finding it when we look outside ourself. I hope all of us are able to find the real meaning of love outside of our physical and emotional desires. I hope all of us find peace and love in our life. Best wishes to you. It has been an interesting debate.

Oh, my bad. Then my remarks about bad debating are unfounded and I appologize, but you can see how my citing a dictionary could cause confusion in that instance. drinker there is your appology beer.

Prolly should start encouraging repentance for all those having shrimp with their Christmas dinners...

Well, actually the shellfish themself were abominations, not the act of eating them. But israelites , as a matter of ceremonial law, were not to eat them because they were unclean. I dont know of any land of shellfish eaters which were destroyed, but it could have happened. I think a distinction between moral code and ceremonial code could be a debate for another time , but it is pretty clear in the bible that God made man for woman and woman for man. All other relationships, may or may not be sinful, but I err on the side of the ONE that was promoted and encouraged.

Actually it isn't all that clear in the bible..there are one 2 or 3 scriptures on the subject..and as everything readable, as we have discussed before, is subjective. Open to interpretation and perspective.

THere are many lessons in the bible, many given specifically to the Israelites and others that were for all christians. It is clear though in genesis, that God made Adam and Eve as helpmates to each other and to be the foundation for human life. I think it is safest to follow this example as well as all the guidelines given by God and Jesus regarding this specific relation.

I found the verse from JESUS repealing the mandate about shellfish(or any other food)...

10Jesus called the crowd to him and said, "Listen and understand. 11What goes into a man's mouth does not make him 'unclean,' but what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him 'unclean.'

I understand your convictions and admire that you stand strong in your beliefs..however, again the bible is too subjective for many. It contracts itself too much. There are to many things that don't apply to us today. I'm not going to bash you or your bible...

There are many on here..as you well know, who will argue all day with you about the bible teachings. And as one who feels that same sex love is just none of my or anyone's else's business..well, were just not going to agree on this subject..also.

in all seriousness, do people still read and refer to the old testament....but yes Ms. Harmony, Jesus allegedly did many more things that wasn't recorded, hell he was a carpenter, I wonder if anything he built is still around, there's only one scripture that really applies to my argument that can be taken from the Bible...thou shall not judge!, course easier said then done....

Even this scripture is taken out of context. Judgment is a necessary part of life because it is a part of making decisions. As a christian, I have to be able to judge right from wrong to make decisions about which path to take. I have to judge actions, I have to judge words. What I have no authority to judge is a person or their soul, because people are complex, and only GOD knows any of us completely enough to make that particular judgment.

This is why I repetitively post my sincere belief that all are equally sinful, God will judge who is forgiven and who is brought home in the end,,not me.

^and that is what I meant, therefore those who do seem to believe in a God have no right to even question whom can marry whom, that should be between those individuals getting married and their God

Well, in the strictest sense it is. There can be a church that marries first cousins and in that community the marriage will be aknowledged but it wont be aknowledged by LAW which is where the opinion of the community at large,, or society, becomes significant. People have the right to be with whom they choose but that doesnt mean that relationship has to be legally defined as a marriage or that it should be.

AS far as believing in God, I need to be consistent. I do not judge a persons soul. I feel the adulterer and the fornicator are behaving just as badly as the homosexual. There is no 'whatever is right for you' doctrine in the bible. Right is right and wrong is wrong. If it is wrong, it applies to me and everyone else (as a christian), same thing if it is right. So I can absolutely judge what is appropriate sexual behavior, because I must do so for myself and God didnt make rules specific to JUST ME. Marriage(as a christian) involves something called consummation or sex. Because sex is involved, it becomes an important part of the discussion of marriage. It is why I dont support polygamy or incest and would vote against any law supporting those relationships or calling those relationships. marriage.

HuckleberryFinn's photo
Thu 12/24/09 09:03 AM
The direction things are swinging,, I think all natures of sexual interests will be untouchable by law someday. It will be a whatever feels good to the individual society. I think age of consent laws will drop as well as laws forbidding intermarriage within families. The argument that consentual adults sex lives are noones business will apply to all consentual relationships. ...should be interesting

^sad that we have come to that point in our society but I must agree with you, however in the inner cities it already seems to be prevalant, little 13-14 year old girls getting pregnant by 32 year old men, and people think that sh-t is cute, it's rape mentally and statutorily anyway you look at it, yet in some societies it's ok....The key issue in this thread is consenting adults, and I feel the same about drug use, give it to a child you should be locked up, however if an adult wants to ruin their life consuming it, the hell with them, let'em....

miserable like the rest of us....nice.
