Topic: Intimidated by a "smart" S/O | |
---|---|
Lots of people say they are looking for someone with brains and someone who is "smart". But, I wonder if many of us, myself included, aren't a little intimidated by someone who is much smarter than we are.
How do you feel about someone who is much smarter than you? |

It doesn't intimidate me as long as he's not throwing it in my face If he has superior knowledge than me in a certain area I find it interesting and actually a turn on

I know a guy who is one of the smartest people I know. He's the only person who sends me emails with words I actually have to look up occasionally. Yet, he never sounds out of place speaking/writing the way he does. It all just makes him more attractive. Not intimidating at all. He also doesn't act like he's smarter, which I think is a great thing.

I'm talking about someone who knows a lot about everything. They are just a very smart, very educated person and no matter what the conversation was they probably know more about it than you. |

Ok, sorry about that - pretty much the same answer though - as long as he doesn't act superior or holier than thou about it - no concern to me.

Some people talk as if they consult a thesaurus every 5 minutes. Some "smart" people are actually not smart at all. They're just pretentious and insecure.

Everybody is knowledgeable about something..even a very smart educated can learn from others. We all have strengths. I know some very smart people and they don't intimidate me. The ones who bother me or make me uncomfortable are the "know it all's".... feel they are here to only teach and can learn nothing from others. Experience is the best knowledge, no matter how many degree's one has.

Good observation! |

with the caveat that there is a difference between intelligence and just knowing a lot of stuff intelligence is the measure of how well the brain works to leap to conceptual ideas and problem solving and just knowing a lot of stuff is just a really good memeory the more a person knows the more they realize how much there is to know and that really don't know that much the really smart people are humble in that realization "If I claim to be a wise man it surely means that I don't know" -Kansas |

I would like to find someone smart then me. But not so smart where he looks down on me. I love to learn new things so Im sure I could learn alot of someone who is smarter.

I have a talent for seeing an object and knowing instinctivly if it will fit in a certain space-conceptual knowledge-but switch that thing to a number it all disapears in a nano second. I am going to college at my age, I just love to learn, even though my brain is cluttered with usless junk ie.Algebra . Now, having said that, OP, in my situation I would have to say that -not being a dunce in the corner- for some guys to rule over and controll, I have found your question to be true for me. As for a fact I have been told that I scare fella's away for being intimidating. ( Despite the fact I am a rotten speller ) LOL

Awwww they say knowledge is power...........but that is only if you relate to others on all levels............
As most have said I can respect anyone that has that knowledge as long as they do not look down on me for not being at the same level they may be on... |

It is interesting to me how many people associate high intelligence with someone who acts superior.
I can see now why many highly intelligent people are afraid to be in social situations. This is all very interesting. Again, just for the record, I am referring to very intelligent people who do not feel superior or use their intelligence to harm others. |
