WASHINGTON, Dec 3 (Reuters) - Most Americans would like to see a "public option" in health insurance reform but doubt anything Congress does will lower costs or improve care in the short term, according to a poll released on Thursday.

Stocks | Regulatory News

The survey of 2,999 households by Thomson Reuters Corp (TRI.TO)(TRI.N) shows a public skeptical about the cost, quality and accessibility of medical care.

Just under 60 percent of those surveyed said they would like a public option as part of any final healthcare reform legislation, which Republicans and a few Democrats oppose.

Here are some of the results of the telephone survey of 2,999 households called from November 9-17 as part of the Thomson Reuters PULSE Healthcare Survey:

* Believe in public option: 59.9 percent yes, 40.1 percent no.

* 86 percent of Democrats support the public option versus 57 percent of Independents and 33 percent of Republicans.

* Quality of healthcare will be better 12 months from now: 35 percent strongly disagree. 11.6 percent strongly agree. 29.9 percent put themselves in the middle.

* Believe the amount of money spent on healthcare will be less 12 months from now: 52 percent strongly disagree, 13 percent strongly agree.

* 23 percent believe it will be easier for people to receive the care they need a year from now.

The nationally representative survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 1.8 percent.

The House of Representatives passed a healthcare overhaul bill last month.

The Senate is debating a plan and will vote on Thursday on competing measures to ensure women have access to mammograms and other preventive screenings and amendments on proposed spending cuts in the Medicare government health program for the elderly.

If the Senate passes a bill, the two versions will have to be reconciled and passed again by each chamber before being sent to President Barack Obama for his signature.

The Senate plan is designed to slow the rate of growth in healthcare, expand coverage to about 30 million uninsured Americans and halt industry practices such as denying coverage to those with pre-existing medical conditions.

It would require everyone to have insurance, provide federal subsidies to help them pay for it and establish a new government-run insurance option to compete with private industry.

Sorry, Government, when reporting numbers, has lost all credibility.
They were caught lying about the number of jobs created or saved. Seems they can publish exactly what they choose and call it the truth.

Attacking my truth won't make the posted topic true.

More than three out of every four Americans feel it is important to have a "choice" between a government-run health care insurance option and private coverage, according to a public opinion poll released on Thursday.

A new study by SurveyUSA puts support for a public option at a robust 77 percent, one percentage point higher than where it stood in June.

LMAO
Does the Gov own SurveyUSA too?

New CBS/NY Times poll: 65% of Americans want the Public option

How about CBS and the NY Times?

And Crooks and Liars says,

In a new poll done by CBS and the NY Times shows that not only do Americans want a public option, they want it BIG TIME. These are numbers that the White House and Rahm can't ignore anymore.
65% of Americas do favor a government administered health care plan like Medicare that would compete with private insurance companies. That's something the Baucus Dogs and Republicans do not want to see after the mark ups have just completed. I'm sure they thought the teabaggers spoke for America, but as any informed person would know, they do not.

First off, everyone knows, CNN is biased in favor of Kang Hussein.

Now, what were the questions asked in your polls?

Were the people interviewed asked if they had read the bill?

Did they ask them which party were they affiliated with?

Where did they get their who to call list?

Do the callers doing the polling get paid minimum wage or by the number of responses they get?

If all who were polled were Democrat, that 65% isn't a very complimentary number.laugh

sort of like how Fox fabricates numbers and make up stories???

Anyone that takes just one network's word for it is fooliing themselves. The sad thing is I have seen these numbers are on many sites that are middle of the road. This Gov. ran on a platform of change and transparency which neither has been done. We are farther in debt, country is more divided and just as much or more cover ups are happening as before. So where is the change where is the transparency?

Well by your words here I am one of "those americans" that will be keeping their job, no danger of loosing it since I work in Mental health and one thing about this party they do love socialism. My job falls into that category.

I am appalled by the healthcare bill, does this country need to fix health care yes we do. This isn't the way though, public option you bet I support it. I don't want the Gov.'s idea of health care. I live to close to Canada and I see what their health care is about. They have higher taxes, and pay about 8% of their gross paycheck to maintain good healthcare.

The People backing this healthcare bill I always ask have you read it. The answer seems to be No but I trust the Gov and we need it anyway. Sure we do, are we sure we need this one.

The sad and pathetic reality is americans pay more for health care than any other nation. An insurance premium is still money spent just as a tax would be. I would like to see the government run healthcare and get the greedy middle men out of the health care business.

Public Option...

Lets let the PUBLIC remove a few represenatives and senators from office... and keep doing it till they get it right.

as far as a poll that had 3000 responses... Yeah! that really represents a vast majority of 300 MILLION people...

Pollsters ask questions in such a way as to skew the data received.

The current way of doing business in government is so obviously a ponzy it is sickening...

Rob tarp to pay jobs... Pay jobs my shifting new assets to old accounts... Get new assets by forcing new business to get on board... Pay for new business by taxing the hell out of everyone...

and cook the books by shifting the data about hoping for windfalls to come along just in time to cover the thefts.

EVENTUALLY a Ponzy folds in upon itself.

America has the world’s most expensive health care in the world.

In the United States, more money is spent per person on health care than in other countries around the world.

Turkey spends around $46.00 per person per year, Japan spends around $2,000.00 per person per year, Switzerland spends around $3,500.00 per person per year and America spends $5,300.00 per person per year.

In 2004, government figures showed that health care spending was at 1.9 trillion dollars, which is equal to 16% of the US gross domestic product.

That and a dollar will get you a value meal.

What makes you think the government can do a better job. Everything they touch ends up costing more than what they 'fixed'.

2004 was a long time ago in the public cycle...

If your household was in debt at the rate of the federal government could you build on an extension of your house... Nope... No one would lend you the money...

Broke is broke... Broke is not well here let me get some lint out of my pocket and it will all be payed.
