Good answer but if you and your spouse where planning on getting a divorce and a law was passed saying that you could not, how would you feel and what would you do.

I would hope there would be exceptions to that rule, as in the bible, such as adultery or abuse. If so, I could still divorce as those are the only reasons I have. If not,,then I guess Id pray alot instead.

This is an easy fix. Ok, so I am married, and I start to hate my wife. She is mean, unruly, and she took away my PS3. Instead of opting for the murder route, I will just wake up one morning, and pronounce I am gay. Immediately the marriage never existed, I am free to go. Hahahaha. 401K, IRA and savings account in tact.

I tried that. In communist Hungary. What they did? They locked me up in a gay colony. The guys were really nice there, but I still thought it best to skip bail and escape the country. My brother had to serve my term.

I'm not the marrying type, so I wouldn't have to worry about it.

I don't believe in marriage and I think the whole institution should be done away with.

With sexy back fat like that! Every guy (or woman) would be proposing to you.. Now just trying to get you to say yes is another question.

If I couldnt get a divorce, I wouldnt shoot them. I would kill myself for making the dumbest mistake of my life and let them live with it.

Common now you all would not be that cruel. There should be better things that both of you could work out instead of trying to kill each other. I read in a California paper that California might be thing about passing a law stating that if you are married that you will not be able to get a divorce. I do not know if it will pass.

you don't have a get a divorce in the state you were married in. you can move to a different state and live there for a certain amount of time and file for divorce in your current state. i know that would pose problems if you have children in the state you'd leave, a job, etc. good luck!

As a legal contract, which is what it is, yes. If people want to marry in their respective religion/church, then go ahead. But, it should have no legal ramifications.

I think that California thing was a political statement of one individual who opposed prop 8, it hasnt and probably wont see the light of day. Families are an important part of our lives. We dont need to see the statistics about how children of broken homes are so much more likely for all types of problems in their lives. To secure the basic foundation of potential mother and fathers commitment to each other,,hurts noone and helps plenty.

Oh, ok. So to be consistent, do you also think the government should remove itself from the child support business and leave people to settle their own financial disputes regarding the children they have made? I think in legal terms the significance of marriage is the endorsement of the state in part, but also the ability of the law to set certain standards within a family unit. For instance, to be able to have law determine how to fairly split things if a divorce occurs, instead of leaving people to duke it out and possibly harm each other. I think it helps to have laws which keep people focused on their responsibility to others,,even spouses.
