Nope! Social skills were never well taught in my part of the country. I wish they had been.
I would attribute the youth being here more to the fact that they are well used to electronic communication than anything else. It's like asking in 1946 why "the kids today" feel the need to drive across town to meet people, instead of going to the local Church like the good old days.
It is ALSO true that (at least in the D.C. area) there are fewer and fewer places where one CAN go to meet people for dating. Economics has driven many places out of business entirely.

I have mad social skills, yo! winking

I think that there is a disconnect for some individuals with all the technology.

But I just think that those without social skills are just more visible online then in real life.

Texting has turned everyone into a cowardlaugh

Instead of the old line of "Can I call you sometime?", it has now turned into "Can I have your cell number? I would love to text you sometime for a date."noway laugh laugh

Biggest turn off EVER! (aside from chest hair and m00bs).

I don't think most young folks today have any social skills at all. Oh they can talk, they can hold a conversation, but they do not know how to be act in a restaurant, how to behave on the hyways, or what it means to put someones elses needs before their own.

I need a megaphone.

THE WORLD KEEPS CHANGING.

Just try to imagine our parents' consternation when we came home with a guitar, long hair, smelly armpits, and multicolour of the rainbold pigmented onto Daddy's Ford. Oh, and a pocketful of mushrooms and other weeds.

This "staying in" stuff... is pretty lame. If we get upset over kids staying in and losing their never acquired social skills, then it's a good world. If the kid never leaves the house, then he'll never catch aids, never gets found by a stray bullet. Never gets kicked to death for a cigarette, never lights the wrong cigarette. Never gets into trouble, never discovers his gender identity (since he or she does not go out on dates.) I think there are even a few comedy shows, well, cartoons, that have the kids centre around this lifestyle.

I certainly stopped going out. I used to go to singles' dances and acutally learned the steps because I liked them. And a date for me meant more than just sipping soda in a carpark and inhaling gasoline vapour.

The world is changing; it's imploding, and if kids don't procreate because of it, that's just all for the better, if you ask me. It's nice to know you have your DNA propagated, but it's a luxury, as all the world's ills (except economic) can and are blamed on overpopulation.

What am I saying. It's good in more than one way that we are becoming an inwardly-turning race. I, for one, am much happier for it.

Okay, so the Vatican is getting angry, but I say they know about God, not life, with seventeen hungry mouths to feed who keep going in-and-out of the house until you get dizzy and lie down in your grave.

I have honed and refined my social skills over the last thirty years or so

bottom line is just yell real loud

"ARE YOU THREATENING ME? GIVE ME TP FOR MY BUNGHOLE!!"

and everyone just seems to leave me alone

I'm on here simply for entertainment.

I still go to shows, hang out with friends and family, and spend my free time like I want.

...oh and I work at bar for my part time job so my social skills are just fine.

agreed 100%. people can be on this site for whatever they want and i think judging ALL kids that age is ridiculous just because you probably met someone who was stupid. its just another site just like facebook and myspace that society has come to use because face it everything now a days is focused on new technology....rant done nowhappy

I see so many twenty somethings and even a few 18 and 19 year olds on these sites, it astounds me. If someone is young and healthy, with no responsibilities tying them down,,why dont they get out and meet people? Goodness, when I was that age I would not have been in places like this because I Was too busy going out with family or going dancing or to shows or ANYTHING but sitting on a computer. Do you think this is a sign of decaying social skills or what?

Why should only twenty somethings go out and meet people? This kind of site should be used as an additional way of meeting people, not the only way.

I think there are many older people on these sites who have no social skills whatsoever.

Well, as I said in my previous post, as we get older we sometimes start to have responsibilities that make it much more difficult to just go and do when and what we please. Before we get to that age though, when we have no responsibility to anyone but ourself, our time is still our own and at that point in life, I found real life interaction to be much more accessible and fulfilling. I kind of use these sites now because I dont have the FREEDOM to come and go as I would have when I was in my twenties.

Well, I'm just looking around. I also just recently got out of a incredibly serious relationship, and although I'm not ready to get into that again I am ready to start looking again if that makes sense... and the internet isn't super serious. I'm not willin to let myself get hurt again soon. (:
