Authorities: Tiger Woods hurt in car crash by home

By DOUG FERGUSON, AP Golf Writer 22 minutes ago

JACKSONVILLE, Florida (AP)—Tiger Woods was injured when his sports utility vehicle struck a fire hydrant and a tree near his Orlando-area mansion in a gated Florida waterfront community early Friday.

The Florida Highway Patrol said the world’s top golfer hit the hydrant and then a tree after pulling out of his driveway in his 2009 Cadillac SUV.

Woods spokesman Glenn Greenspan said the golfer was treated at Health Central Hospital and released in good condition. The accident report classified Woods’ injuries as serious, but patrol spokeswoman Kim Montes said troopers consider the injuries serious if they require more than minor medical attention.

The FHP said alcohol was not involved, though the accident remains under investigation and charges could be filed. No one else was in the car, Montes said.

The accident happened at 2:25 a.m., though the FHP did not release the accident report until nearly 12 hours later.

Gary Bruhn, mayor of the adjacent community of Windermere, said police from that village were among the first on the accident scene and saw Woods with cuts on his face.

Woods’ $2.4 million home is part of the exclusive Isleworth subdivision near Orlando, a community set on an Arnold Palmer-designed golf course and a chain of small lakes. The neighborhood, which is fortified with high brick walls and has its own security force, is home to CEOs and other sports stars such as the NBA’s Shaquille O’Neal.

Woods has won 14 majors and 82 times around the world, most recently at the Australian Masters on Nov. 15.

He was to host his tournament, the Chevron World Challenge, on Monday at Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, California.

He won six times this year after missing eight months recovering from reconstructive surgery on his left knee. Even though he failed to win a major, Woods said he considered this a successful year because he did not know how his knee would respond.

Associated Press writers Tamara Lush and Lisa Orkin Emmanuel in Miami contributed to this report.

Golf is the most senseless of sports..

Acres of terrain....used for stupid little karts and meaningless rich snobs who spend their days hitting a tiny white ball...

How about closing down all golf courses and using these terrains for agricultural purposes...to feed the hungry in the 3rd world?

I know i will recieve many disapproving messages.....but these disapprovals come from pure ignorance of what hunger is all about.
I was in Africa and in Bosnia in the 1990s with the Army....and i saw little children hunger stricken gaze at me with their suffering eyes....
And it has changed my views over many issues...

But until you witness this with your own eyes you will never understand...and you will only express your bigot and silly thoughts from your computer screen pushing up the rims of your glasses...I will gladly pay you a round trip ticket to a 3rd world country of your choice if it can wake you up and smell the coffee.

So disapprove all you want....and try to look as silly as you can....I will just chuckle at ya.....

But i also know there still are some smart people out there.....who agree with me...

Odd.

I play golf and I am neither rich, nor am I a snob.

I am just a dude who'll spend 25 bucks to go out and hit a " tiny white ball ".

Whether you think the game is meaningless or not is completely irrelevant.

Your opinion is just that. Your opinion.

Here is the first of the "intelligent" responses....

Spend your 25$ by donating these for a good cause..

It will make you feel better.....

And yes its my ******* opinion.....ok?

More than an opinion its facts.....

have you ever seen hunger stricken children with flies in their eyes stare at you desperately seeking relief?

Obviously **** no.....

Whatever.....these forums are like magnets..

magnets attract the opposite poles...

Intelligent and meaningful posts attract comments from people whose heads" only purpose is to divide their ears.

Talk about snobs......wow.

Shall we turn the soccer fields into farms too?
Or you could give up that nice car you like to drive and that nice home you live in......I'm sure all that could help support third world countries too.

Speaking your mind is one thing......but your rudeness is totally unbecoming.

No rudeness here...

Just plain crystal clear sunshine speech...

A soccer field is about 0.3% of a golf course...

Wow...I am amazed...very high IQs at work ...

And....what?

A house and a car are vital assets....unlike golf courses...

My lord.....help...

How about we use the other millions upon millions of free acres in the US instead. It's not like there's an excess of golf courses sucking up all the land, let alone courses in third world countries.

Just chill and kill the holier-than-thou attitude. It's a game that makes many happy. If you don't like it, fine, but don't go being a d*ck and talking trash about everyone else.

Meh. He/she/whatever the hell that person is has absolutely no clue what I do in my community.

I will say this, and only this....

I would MUCH rather help people here in this country than worry about what's going on in some 3rd world country where they produce more people than the land is able to bear.

Maybe if those people looked around and paid attention, they would see the suffering their children are going through and stop popping them out.

People have been starving for thousands of years, yes children too.
doesn't mean we shouldn't help. but don't think it will ever end.

begs the question. who has a greater affect reducing world hunger? tiger, with the hundreds of millions that he's donated to various africa relief funds as well as domestic charities for children? or you with your ranting about golf courses that do nothing to feed the hungry? how much do you give of your income on a percentage basis. is it a higher percentage than what tiger gives? if so do the dollar amounts compare? were it not for golf courses, tiger would have little if nothing to give. could be that there are some smart people out there who disagree with you too huh? or is your idea of smart only someone who agrees with you?

fully two decades before you were in the army i was in the army in vietnam. i can assure you that you have not had an exclusive look at suffering throughout the world. since vietnam i've visited fifty one other countries and seen philanthropy do wonderful things helping to not only feed the hungry but build the infrastructure necessary to help people feed themselves. i don't play golf, never have, but i vehemently disagree with your take that golf has never fed the hungry. and tiger woods has given more to that effort than anyone else i'm aware of. i never watched golf until tiger came on the scene. last year when he was recovering from knee surgery ratings were down over forty percent. the money that is generated just because he shows up is incalculable and some of that money, a good deal of it in fact, goes to charities that tiger does not even know exists. you've really given this little thought it seems. not atypical of americans these days looking for someone to blame for the world's and their own misfortunes.

Tiger Woods: Injuries Caused by Wife, Not SUV
Posted Nov 28th 2009 6:08AM by TMZ Staff

Tiger Woods did not suffer facial lacerations from a car accident. They were inflicted by his wife, Elin Nordegren -- according to a conversation Woods had Friday after the accident.

Tiger has yet to be formally interviewed by the Florida Highway Patrol -- that should happen this afternoon. But we're told Tiger had a conversation Friday -- with a non-law enforcement type -- detailing what went down before his Escalade hit a fire hydrant.

We're told he said his wife had confronted him about reports that he was seeing another woman. The argument got heated and, according to our source, she scratched his face up. We're told it was then Woods beat a hasty retreat for his SUV -- but according to our source, Woods says his wife followed behind with a golf club. As Tiger drove away, she struck the vehicle several times with the club.

Perhaps the best way to help would be to set a good example without judging or calling others names. Possibly your message would be better received. For example I was about to go on a rant of how your hypocracy knows no end. But I thought before I posted. TACT=Talk,After,Carefull,Thought.
