I've been mistaken for female, and have had some of those obnoxious
emails. I answer because I find it amusing to do so... but I sure as
hell don't feel like I 'owe' it to them.

I hate getting ims from ppl that I have no real interest in and there is
the yes or no option...I usually ignore it because I dont want to hurt
anyone's feelers ok kill me now!!! but I
prefer ppl to send me emails first and then if I decide I want to im
them, then ......

I say, if you're going to argue and insult, x-change phone numbers or
e-mail and do it in private one-on-one. The fighters on here are

Well I say we are all adults here...Maybe if we stop and remember that
before we post or e-mail...HMMMMMMM this could all be common sense...BUT
I also choose who I respond to depending on the e-mail!!!!!!!!

i have no problem not answering phone calls, either...i rarely give out
my number, and i'm not listed...but i still don't owe a call-back.

my profile clearly states that i am NOT available...i have four children
and work full-time, i'll be damned if i'll answer all those that can't
take the time to read.

when someone writes and asks a question, i'll generally answer...there
are several people here whom i contact regularly, but i don't OWE anyone
a thing. that kind of thinking is co-dependent and destructive.

Hummm it is not the site that actually sucks it is some of the people on
the site that sucks! Actually this site is a very good site. But all
sites you will find ones that are on it that seem to try to bring the
site down. One if someone sends you sexually e-mails that offends you
then report them to Van & Mike. If on a post and you see something that
is against the rules report it to Van & Mike that is what they are there
for to take care of the problems and to set the rules and keep them in
place.

Also read the rules and make sure you follow them as well. They are
there for all to follow not just a select few. You abuse others on post
you will suffer just as anyone else will. If you have and opinion about
a subject and you are posting your opinion on the wrong post and you are
asked kindly to please start your on out of RESPECT of the post that was
made then you should give that RESPECT if you don't then don't belly
ache about it later for you were in the wrong not the ones that asked
you and was never rude to you. And I'm sure that the one this was
directed too knows what I mean. You had a good point no doubt but it did
not belong were you chose to put it. Therefore your point that you were
trying to make went to deaf ears for the choice that you made and to
disrespect others. Respect is only given to those that can give it back.

on the topic of people not answering e-mails or IM's, don't know what i
feel the most sadness or anger . if i'm too old or whatever , just tell
me and i won't bother you again. sometimes i think if you young 'uns
would talk to us old farts you just might be surprised at how much fun
we are and how "COOL" we can be , just don't let me hanging out here in

Hello, everyone!

I think this site is excellent. I've looked at the discussion forums on
a number of sites, trying to figure out what makes one site 'good' and
another 'bad.'

JSH has extraordinarily high participation rates, as measured by
posts-to-view ratios. This means that people are 1) interested in the
threads, and 2) feel comfortable posting. The rations are much lower at
other sites, like CS and PoF.

I think that JSH is about in the middle, in terms of courtesy. Leaving
aside the idiots who pop up declare the site inadequate and disappear
(it seems all sites have that), I have found the threads in Current
Events (the ones I read most) are capable of unusually thoughtful and
informative discussion, and in a handful of cases are actually breaking
ground. JSH really deserves recognition for achieving this.

It is true that some of these threads are reduced by a small number of
people who sometimes resort to insult, bigotry and profanity, but by and
large this is not much of a problem. Even the Memorial Day threads,
where we saw quite a bit of the rude and crude postings, included some
wonderful discussions that quietly and effectively explored the many
issues. Many people who disagreed actually communicated pretty
effectively.

So, my hat is off to Mike, Van and JSH and the vast majority of its
posters. You have created a real community here. Thank you.
