My prayers are with you, Ray. May God bless and keep you in the palm of
his hand. The loss of my dad was a hard thing to bear. I couldn't even
cry at his funeral. It was like so unreal because he was always there
even when he wasn't there in person. I had so much anger at him growing
up that it seem like a relief when he passed away. The last I was able
to spend with him we buried the hatchet so to speak but not in each
other's back that time. When I was in treatment I got to write a long 28
page letter all about the resentment I had against him. After he
corrected all the mistakes in the letter he began to tell his side of
the story since he was in the military most of my life. In the last year
that I was able to spend with him we accepted each other just as people
and it was so refreshing. It was like he finally accepted me as a man in
my own right. It was a beautiful thing just to be accepted as his son
but for him to acknowledge me as a human being was beyond words. Later,
God helped me to cry at his passing. Grief tears is the most valuable
thing that God ever gave to me. It is what finally made me human. I hope
that you find consolation and spend time with him. When they are gone
they live through your memories of them.
