You might be surprised to know that alot of Americans live outside the United States scattered throughout the world. It is said well over 6 million. Now I can't find the most recent chart, but this one will give you an idea of how many Americans choose to live somewhere else.

Many do not register, which means that in theory the number of Americans could be higher. These numbers also include children who became American citizens by being born in the United States, but whose parents could be citizens of other countries.

Although this list is from 1999, it still gives a good indication of where Americans are. Now this doesn't include military personal, which is another 500,000 Americans.

Oh , it doesnt surprise me. Very cool numbers. I was commenting on Americans in America who dont travel though. Its a very small number of the 300 mill Us residents who have passports.

I wonder why that is? The world is fascinating to experience. I have spent alot of years traveling to many countries. It helps broaden your mind to understanding different philosophies, cultures, and lifestyles.

Oh well, each to their own.

Have a good morning. I am off to get some rest.drinker

What is the actual number of illegal immigrants in this country, or is it not possible to get an actual count or approximate count?

What will happen to the majority of these illegal immigrants? Will they just get a fine and then become legal? Will they be sent back to their home country paid by the government?

or does nothing happen.

What do you think should happen?

Ok, I see that this thread has somewhat belong serious (without any help be me,lol) so I will give you a serious reply then.
Illegals provide NOTHING to this country except for draining us dry. They beat the system at every turn...for ppl that cant read or write or fulling comprehend our society they definitely know how to work the system. They use our medical and run to the E.R bc they know that they can not be refuse...leaving us the American citizen the tab. They use our housing, start gangs, take jobs away, cause the salary of ppl to be lower, have a child here ONLY so that they can not be refused citizenship. They cheat and steal and are no good in gerneal as a whole. If INS could only do their job we wouldn't have the problem that we have today. It got to the point that they are even accepted that the government wants to grant these ppl Amnesty?!

My daughters father is British,,he was denied entry though she was born here. It makes her a citizen but not him. We went through a three year immigration process to get that denial by the way and Im sure that wait will be longer the more work the INS gets sorting through ILLEGAL entries. Apply the laws fairly and equally and dont reward those who break them while punishing those who dont.

Believe it or not...I kinda went through that same thing with a "ex" girlfriend of mine. At first it was to get her in and become a citizen meanwhile het father was here already. Long story short after paying over thousands of dollars for the fingerprinting and required paperwork they tell "oh she is a citizen already bc she was at the right age before 84'" I was like "WTF?!" So did i get my money bak? LMAO...No they said. The system sucks here I know bc we we're also trying to get her mother here and that's been going on for over 8yrs and counting.
So, yes I agree that the laws suck big time for the ppl that want to go about it the right way so in a weird way I could understand doing it illegally.
But, only in a weird way ;)

Captain Kirk was a Canadian and broke rules on a regular basis. He also went anywhere in the galaxy he wanted. What does that tell you?

another probllem I have with it is all the money they send home

if there are 30 million illegals here and they send $20 a month home then that is a $60 million a month drain on our economy and I suspect it's MUCH higher than that

I suspect that Mexico's three top income sources are oil, drugs, and illegals in the US

nahhh but someone here did. That is the knee jerk accusation that if you're for controlling immigration in this country that you must be racist

it's just a dishonest way of characterizing the argument and turning it into something else

I live in a place with lots and lots of Mexican immigrants. I don't know who is legal and who isn't, but I do know that I really don't fit in here. It's my own fault for not going to their country and learning Spanish...

I'm not sure what to think. I moved down here from Northern California and it isn't that bad there. I want to be open-minded but there's something about this community that bothers me. Most of the people that live here do not speak English and have no interest in our culture. My father came from another country, learned English, worked hard to get his citizenship and is proud to be an American. Most of the immigrants here seem to be opportunists. I'm moving to a neighboring city.

You know I wonder when it became the thing to do to forget your heritage and convert to "American".

I would have loved to have had more of my heritage and the languages of my ancestors. I would speak Native American (Cherokee), German, Irish (I don't think it is called that but I don't know what it is called)

Sorry for the late reply but I just noticed this.

My father did not forget his heritage, or culture. He embraced a new one and added to it. He contributed four exotic-looking, half-Persian children who think, and act, slightly different than the average Joe. The difference between him and most of the people who enter this country illegally is loyalty. My father came here to be American, not to acquire money. He learned English and knows our history. He calls this country his own and would die for it.

Let's just open our borders to all third-world nations. Most of South America and Africa would like to be here too you know. And people from the Post-Soviet Union and certain other Slavic regions want in too! They respect the U.S. too much to do to our nation what they did to their own. We can use our tax dollars to ship them all over and support them once they get here, we have plenty of money.

That was a prejudice assessment of the illegals.

They are not all criminals. Americans have just as many if not more citizen criminals than they have.

Making them evil is the first step in bigotry and prejudice, you know.

I thought the Bush Administration was giving fines to illegal immigrants who report themselves in. Afterwords they become legal residents and can continue to work. In otherwords, those who have been living here illegally and working will not get deported. Is this true or is that only for certain states?

Was this a rumor? I remember reading this somewhere.grumble

It was Bush's idea or an idea he supported to end the illegal problem. It was never even voted on if my memory serves me right.

I wonder why the hold up. Could it be that the Corporations don't want this because then they have costs to cover?

Perhaps the idea isn't good or something. Whatever the reason is, let us see what Obama is going to do in his presidency.
