Debating religion with a christian is... *cringes*
Whatever your religion I still think that what is most important is the personal connection that you feel with god.

And seriously... what's with the whole hell thing? When did that become popular? Finite circumstances with infinite repercussions all unnecessary but for the whim of One who requires nothing and creates everything?

I really hope that if there is a god he has a better sense of humor than popular religion's been painting him to have.

so...this leads me to favorite question...
While most religions have specific rules against suicide, most have nothing against dying from a disease or accident. So....if a believer's eventual goal is dying and going to paradise, why don't they all smoke 10 pks a day and go hangliding a lot?

I think the world would go absolutley crazy if God ever did show himself. The religious people wouldn't know what to do with themselves. Although I have a sneaking suspicion that if God ever really did show himself the religious people wouldn't believe him.

I thought christianity was folowing the teachings of christ, but I see so many "christians" that refer to the old testament instead of jesus' teachings.

They pick and choose, like at a buffet, what parts to endorse and what to ignore. From both the new and old testaments.

Yes very true, the old testiment is mainly for history. The new testiment is the law that applies to us and what we need to do or not to do.

Well, ironically that is correct even according to the scriptures.

The original scriptures have God demanding that his followers murder heathens (where a heathen is simply anyone who rejects the words written in the book), and he also demanded that no other gods be placed before him. That was his first commandment of the big ten.

Well, supposedly Jesus comes along, and totally denouncing the teachings of this God. That being a heathen. The original God asked people to judge others and stone sinners, heathens, and even unruly children to death. Jesus rebuke those teachings and teaches that we should not judge others. We'll if we can't judge them then we certainly can't be stonning them to death for being sinners.

So Jesus rebukes the word of God (i.e. he's a heathen and God had already commanded people to put heathens to death)

The old God also directed people to see revenge in the form of an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth. Jesus rebuked that teaching too and instead he taught forgiveness and to turn the other cheek. Once again, he qualifies as a heathen in the eyes of the Lord.

Finally, Jesus supposedly teaches that no man gets to the Father except through him. (He clearly places himself BEFORE God).

That's probably the single most blasphemist thing that he taught that genuinely got him crucified as a heathen.

So like BYondLife suggests, if we are to accept the Old Testament as the word of God, we too must reject Jesus as an obvious heathen. There's no way such blaspheme could be justified.

I personally believe that the very reason that most Christians Love Jesus so much is precisely because Jesus told God where to go.

Jesus rebelled against all that God stood for at that time. And that's why the Christians Love him so much. They didn't care for all that Old Testament crap either.

Unfortuntely, there are many Christians who do use Jesus as nothing more than an excuse to prop up the Old Testament. In fact, that's basically what Paul did all the way through the New Testament.

So it's truly a sad situation all the way around, IMHO.

Had Jesus truly been accepted for having denounced Yahweh, as he appears to have done even according to the gospels, then he could have become a whole new religion in his own right.

Unfortunately the claim that Jesus was the Son of Yahweh puts a damper on that. That claim forces Jesus to have no clout of his own. He only has meaning when standing on the shoulders of Yahweh.

Jesus is nothing without Yahweh, which is an irony because Jesus preached against the ways of Yahweh.

So it truly does appear to be a self-defeating religion.

Jesus would have made a great stand-alone Buddha. But as long as he's stuck on the shoulders of Yahweh the story makes no sense at all, IMHO.
