There doesnt appear to have been a passenger compartment on the balloon when it came down.

I was just reading some about it. there never was a passenger compartment. The dad said it was never intended to carry passengers.
the kid and the dad built it together and it was supposed to just go up and stay tethered. the kid is prolly hiding in the woods cause he knows his dad is gonna be pissed |
