What are you talking about?
I'm a vet and I have been voulenteering time and donating to several diferent groups that support our troops.

Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (www.IAVA.org) is the country's first and largest nonprofit, nonpartisan organization for veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and has more than 150,000 veteran members and civilian supporters nationwide.

better question is, why is it a show of support? because you feel good is not supportive. talk is not support. especially if the talk goes along these lines. "i support the troops BUT............" fill in your favorite political sound bite.

great. then you do support the troops in a way that matters to the troops. your op ended with, "sign the pledge". that's nothing but talk. thanks for serving.

noway That's not what it's about. Some may just sign the pledge and nothing else but the more the word gets out and the more that go to the site, some will donate either time or money to SUPPORT the troops.
As a vet it saddens me that you feel that way.

No your question is not better, sorry to say. My question still stands, why do you think that site is not showing support. It shows people signing and in their own way thanking others for serving.

 I thought that was the purpose. The more people visit site, tell others, word spreads, people will want or chose to get involved.

if that's not what it's about, why end your op there? why not expand on what real support was to you as a brother in arms? if i go to the site and don't sign the pledge but am inspired to contribute time or money i've supported the troops. many go to these sites because it's an easy way to feel good while doing nothing. i volunteer my time at the local va clinic and often talk with recently returning and former troops. rarely do i hear that these sites are read by them and those that do find little actual support outside of some backslapping attaboys. sorry your sad. i'm quite happy.

the op and i gave examples of the ACTIONS that we take to support the troops. there are many, many more. look people. if you go to one of these sites and come away with ideas as to how to act in support of the troops then you will find a way to make their lives better. my initial comment was directed at the op's final comment as he began this thread. "sign the pledge". do that and leave it at that and you've supported nobody. it's way too easy to feel good about supporting the troops without acutally lifting a finger to do so.

Sorry I didn't put donate time or money if you can.

But those who can't do either can atleast sign the pledge in show of support in their hearts.

Wow you sound so bitter, I'd rather have someone who wanted to donate their money or time to do so at their discretion. Those who just want to say thank you can feel free to do so by signing pledge, saying thank you, for those who pray saying a prayer, why is that not considered as support to you?
