Just wondering people thoughts on here...
And don't everybody profile people everyday???
Does that make all of those people racist too?

Profiling can be done for any type of reason. So it can be racist if the person doing it is a racist. Or some are taught racist ideals and don't even realize they are racist so then they are just ignorant. Which means not knowing any better.

Some people profile teenage kids because they have a store and the kids seem to steal. Does it make them right, no. They are wrong.

You can see how that type of prejudice would develop for them but it still doesn't make them right.

People do it for all kinds of reasons.

My bestfriends boyfriend dressed up like a bum and beat her with a shovel. To this day my friend freaks out around bums. Even though she knows it was her boyfriend who did it the impression in her mind of the bum is stuck, she cannot get it out of her head and she cannot stop the reaction.

So she profiles, is prejudice because of fear, of bums unjustly but we can understand how it happened.

Let me put to you two imgages:

The first is of a hispanic man, mid- to late 20's, 5'8" about 160#, low slung sagging blue jeans, white tank top undershirt, shaved head, tattoos on his face, neck, shoulders, back, arms, a couple of tear drop tattoos under his left eye.

the second, another hispanic man, again mid to late 20's, 5'8", about 160#, wrangler blue jeans, western boots, polo shirt, cell phone on his belt, clean shaven, straw cowboy hat...

there are two vehicles in the parking lot.. one is a chevy silverado step side, mud on the sides. the other is an early 80's monte carlo, withe the roman numeral XIV carved into the vinyl behind the side windows..

which car belongs to which man?

I cannot pick because I don't know enough about either person.

Nope because looks do not mean anything about people. I need to know them, talk to them, watch them, see about them, etc....

well, then you'll be lucky if your ignorance doesn't get you killed because people that have done time in prison often come out with jailhouse tats. Those that do are often the most dangerous and your friendly, getting-to-know-you conversation with such a person, blonde white blue-eyed princess that you are, is likely to land you in a world of hurt if you can't read the most basic of street lingo..

La Eme and Nuestra Familia along with Texas Syndicate are some of the most dangerous people you might happen to come across.. They make the Bloods and Crips look like kindergarteners, dilettantes, rank amateurs..

not sure if this is what you mean, but here is an example and you can tell me if it's what you are talking about

I'm walking to my car, in a parking lot, and I see a guy that may look like a gang banger or something like that. yes I will be more aware. IMO it's part of what people are taught in self defense classes. I would be aware of any one but there are some that stick out more than others.

is this right or wrong???? dunno. I know in my mind that people like Ted Bundy were the clean cut type, but I think in our society that we tend to look at others different in different situations.

again...I'm not saying it's right though. and it doesn't necessarily have to be about race for me. it's anyone.

I think we naturally get first impressions of people.

I have been around dangerous people in my life. You assume too much.

I still judge people by how they act with me and how we interact not how they look.

when I was in the military and in a counter terrorism class. they emphasized over and over to look beyond appearances (I know THAT would suprise some of the anti govt people haha)

and the example they used was,

you're out in the woods and come across a group of teenagers and grownups dressed in para military uniforms and burning American flags. what do you do?

and everyone said "kick their azzes" or some variation of that

turns out that its the Boy Scouts and they are disposing of old flags in the preferred method

But this isn't racial profiling, because you describe criminal gangs within a specific ethnic group.

In this case while you are watching the gangbanger the Ted Bundy type will have you in his car and gone.

Criminals come in all shapes sizes colors backgrounds, etc... To assume will put you at a disadvantage.
