Topic: Judging Vs. First Impressions | |
---|---|
They say don't judge a book by its cover, right? What about first impressions? How important is that to you? Have you judged someone from that? I've always thought that good judgement comes from experience and experience comes from bad judgement. I have judged someones character from their first impressions before and i'm sure its been done towards me as well. What about placing "good" judgments from someones first impression? Is that also wrong?

I try not to be swayed by first impressions since i know that i tend not to make the best first impression- i am incredibly shy if i don't know you so i come off as perhaps cold or standoffish but im just not comfortable yet- it takes me at least 3-4 meetings before my personality comes out so i will usually give someone more chances than say someone else would but thats just me

i always judge people on how they look and their first impression on me.
it might not be cause for me to necessarily dismiss them as possible friends, and i might not always be right, but i certainly form at least some judgement on them. |

I can't help making a first impression, sometimes it is so gut clear that I am just right (at least for what that person may or may not mean to me) sometimes I sit back and wait for other impressions...First impressions are just that, a first. Often we rethink but sometimes we run for our lives!

my instincts are amazing. i trust them implicitly.
like when that one guy who took me out on our first date then peed behind a tree... yeah.. red flag alert for the instincts. : p |

If you first meet yes please dress nice and smile. |

I donno...
Within the first few minutes of meeting someone I pretty much know where that relationship will go.....lover, friend, associate, someone who I couldn't care less about...... Part of it is based on looks but mainly it is based on how a person carries themselves. Those who don't like the "in your face" kind of friendly would be very uncomfortable around me....and I can spot that a mile away. I still would be friendly but, you would never hear from me again. Those who can deal with that kind of outward personality will find that they got a real friend wether they want it or not. As far a judging on looks....I firmly believe in it. Let's face it...if it becomes acceptable to let yourself go to pot...sweat pants are fine for going out in public...and no make up or not bothering to at least run a brush through your hair is ok...we will be a society of friggen slobs. Nature and society rewards those that groom themselves to be more attractive. |

I mean, some people are nervous with first impressions... and who makes a good impression when they are nervous?... |

OK Krupa, I am with you on most of this but, make up....do you put yours on to run to the store or even go to work for that matter? Let's say clean and dressed for the outside world (no sweats or stretch pants in public) but no double standard either. OK? Hope so! |

It depends upon the circumstances. A stranger who isnt expecting to see me, I may chalk up to having a bad day. Someone who I am SCHEDULED to spend time with,, Im pretty much gonna make a judgment on how they chose to act.

I make it easy on myself. I don't trust anybody.

The couple of times in my life that I've TOTALLY ignored the "first impression" based on the "don't judge a book by its cover" mantra have left me BURNED! Sad but true, I suppose, but gut instinct has come credibility, IMO.
