this is the exact reason why there is no peace. every body think their belief will bring peace. some might have slight difference in those idea of beliefs. peace will only come, as said by a great man ( though i'm no believer) "turn the other cheek" regardless of what you or other believe tolerance is the only way. but thank god ( lol if you get the pun) we have radical fanatics who just won't let things go lol.

Yes same mountain same moon at the top and same message god is love and let go of all the fleshly attacments and live in it but again people find that bliss and just want to share so they try to get someone off their path cause they can't see how thiers would lead to bliss when their own does so they get frustrated fall off the mountain and figure if they could get support they could climb up easier but then it leads to war

Religions can not even agree on what truth is.. each believes their truth is the only truth, when there is actually truth is all of them. Unfortunately their view are to varied to come together to create peace.

What I find interesting is that if you really study major religions, their philosophies are essentially the same. It's the religious dogma that gets in the way of understanding. I don't believe that religions are as far apart as most of their leaders would have us believe.
agreed

In this post I was trying to not specifically name any religious group or religion. I agree that the philosophies are the same in many ways, and that the dogma gets in the way, unfortunately it is the dogma that many choose to live by. Even with them agreeing on some points..there are still some major differences that get in the way.

Peace only comes when you accept others and their beliefs as they are. Unless it's really something violent or horrible, I would say to leave them alone and them believe as they wish. Praise whatever God they feel closest to. Whatever brings them comfort and peace, quit trying to change it into something else. There isn't just one right answer. People are to quick to jump and accuse others of offending their God. Or doing something against their God. Well just who in the blazes are you to be assuming who is offending who's God??

honestly how boring would the world be if it was peacful, compassion will soon dissolve and we are left with a place in lack of passion and desire. conflicts will never arise to be solved. nothing will be worth " fighting" for. and most importantly...WHAT ABOUT MY TRACTOR?????????

Can religion bring peace without the use of war, torture, or other unpleasant activities if wanted?

What do you believe?

I believe I'll have another coffee.

Some things are worth fighting for. However, who's God is better is not one of those things.

the choice to fight for what you want is the a fight worth fighting for, those that may conflict with others, such is the paradox of freedom.

so would others, which is why they do "die" in pursuit of it.

I think it's mankinds nature to kill each other

there will always be an excuse for war

whether it's in the deserts of the Middle East

or in ghettos of Detroit

or in barrios of Mexico

Do you really think so? So, taking poverty, religion, greed, etc off the table, people would find reasons to kill each other? I've never thought about it in those terms. Something to ponder

some like to fight for the sake of fighting.. doesn't always need to be a reason. Some like to find an "enemy" just for the pure satisfaction of being able to fight them, and feel like they are winning. The enemy can always be found in someone different than ourselves...makes it easier to label them enemy that way.

every effect has a cause, who is to say that the satisfaction of winning is less noble than defense of a nation.

no one is to say..
satisfaction at the expense of another says all that needs to be said

so we continue to fight

Well, I like to believe that humans have evolved to a point where killing for pleasure, so to speak I guess, is no longer something we need. Even "nature," as someone put it, does not kill for pleasure but for survival.

but there are cases in nature where animals kill for pleasure

for instance, never ever run from a lion. it will chase you down and kill you for fun

even cute little family pet dogs will pack up and attack and kill other animals for sport

ever seen a cat play with a mouse? that is about as cruel and vicious as it gets. then then the cat will kill the mouse when it gets tired of torturing it

What do you believe?

I would think that religion can NOT bring peace because each religion prefers itself and sees the rest at evil .In the same religion there are different sects or paths that lead to different roads . Religion is a man made hypocrisy initiated to control man in all aspects of life .
