I wish I had the advice knowing it was from someone who actually had experience in what I need help with, now just someone talking out their ***.

That brings up another one I've got:

Never take the advice of someone who has not had your kind of trouble. - Sydney J. Harris

I don't nessecarily agree with this or the other statements completely, but they can be accurate to an extent.

Why is the sky blue anyway?

It's not at night. Which reminds me of a question I like to pose to my kids. If you have a regular naval orange and you turn off all lights, is it still orange? They eventually work it out with me asking some leading questions.

How come oranges are named oranges and carrots are named carrots? They're both orange aren't they?

Advice is sometimes consider the gift of friendship and other times it's doom. Sorry I don't know who said that but I have found it is true.

How I relate to people I want to be friends with is radically different than how I answer forums topics which often are asking opinions and advice. Since the majority of my friends I consider equals I don't see a need to give them advice, pay their bills, consider protecting their kids, or parenting/mentoring them .

I guess the bottom line is does someone consider something advice or and opinion or just conversation. If opinions matter to you and you take them personally be careful; choose the conversations you participate in, and make it clear what you do and do not want. If you can't take the feed back don't stand up in a public forum and shoot your mouth off in a way that will be offensive; even if it is in the guise of humor. Kind of the thing if you can't stand the heat stay out of the kitchen.

Good quotes. I've found that we often give advice when all that is really wanted is an ear.

Didn't help Van Gogh much!

I hear he was pissed when she said "Vince, 'Lend me your ear' is just an expression."

I hope she said it into his good ear.

Advice is what we ask for when we already know the answer, but wish we didn't. - Erica Jong

Socrates was a Greek philosopher who went around giving people good advice. They poisoned him. - Anonymous

Many recieve advice; only the wise profit from it. - Latin maxim

Friendship will not stand the strain of very much good advice for very long. - Robert Lynd

You forgot one-

"Opinions are like farting- they stink to everyone except you."

Quotes neither take into consideration the events you have been through personally nor do they take into consideration who you are as a person. Quotes are merely a way to place an object in the path of a person as a way to either be an obstacle or a leap forth...however, most if not all fail at both.

This message is brought to you by Failure, don't worry, if you fail I'm sure there is a quote you can hang onto for the rest of your life...sort of like 'nice guys finish last'.

Just saying that quotes and the like for the most part don't really do anything aside from maybe giving you motivation for a short time. You can't live your life according to what anyone said as motivation, as what they said applied in an time period that is far different than that which we live in today and the phrases are not taking into account personal trials and tribulations...or you can, I don't really care.

I don't think that always rings true. There are quotes which can remain contemporary as well as provide inspiration and motivation daily. Like these:

"Most people are about as happy as they make up their minds to be."
~ Abraham Lincoln

Try not to become a man of success but a man of value.
~ Albert Einstein

If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put foundations under them.
~ Henry David Thoreau

If you can imagine it, you can achieve it; if you can dream it, you can become it.
~ William Arthur Ward

My suggestion is that you not use the word advice . . .
it's all in the root words.
