I can imagine disclosing that would be a very hard thing for someone to do.......but then it has to be done, doesn't it? It seems like it would be one of those "damned if ya' do, damned if ya' don't" things.

Very true but would be easier to deal with if they were honest with you from the beginning.

big f-ing deal. 80 percent of the population has it anyway and if you don't get married today then you're probably gonna contract it or something else somewhere along the line and if someone DOESN'T ask to use a condom it means they DO have it already

we also have to remember the maturity level of the person being told, if they can handle that or not. but it does seem like dam if you do and dam if you dont, a no win cituation

No not 80%

.................................................
1 out of 5 adults is infected with the genital herpes virus

Genital herpes is caused by a contagious virus that spreads through intimate skin-to-skin contact. The disease is widespread in the United States. It is estimated that 50 million people have genital herpes. That means that 1 out of 5 adults is infected with the herpes virus. Anyone who is sexually active, even with just 1 person, can get genital herpes. There are up to 1 million new cases each year, and, in fact, genital herpes is now more common than diseases like diabetes and asthma. Once you have the virus in your body, there is no known way to get rid of it.

Hummm not sure where you get your information from but this is straight from the Herpes Information Center....

An estimated 25 percent of American adults have genital herpes.

I've been divorced for 17 years and have never had herpes or any kind of sexually disease maybe I'm one of the lucky ones who knows.

Or maybe I have always been with those that were honest up front about these type of issues.bigsmile Before I sleep with them.

It's a big deal if you're delivering a baby and you're having an outbreak. A friend of mine almost had a c-section because of that.
She got lucky when the flare-up calmed down.

So am I to assume that you all expect someone to be like, "Hi. My name is Bob and I have genital herpes. Wanna go on a date with me?"

That's the thing I was wondering about. So you want to know "from the beginning". I think there must be a window there that you probably have to take. By that I mean, where you feel comfortable enough to tell but before feelings come into play. It must be awful to think you'd have to tell every person you say hello to that kind of info.

you fell in love with someone - and you had not yet been intimate with them- and they told you they had genital herpes...what would you do???

Ummmm...if you fell in love with them and they hadn't divulged that particular little tidbit of info....

So long.

Are you sure of it? Chances are, you may have it, and may have had it for years, and not even known it.

No. But unless you " fall in love " within a few weeks or a few dates...don't ya think that's something you should probably know BEFORE getting so emotionally involved???

At least so that you can make an informed decision on whether or not to stay with that person??

Thing is....you can carry the virus without knowing for years. And you can not be tested unless there is a breakout. So it is possible for someone to carry it, unknowingly, for years until a breakout occurs. That's likely how it gets spread...the carrier didn't even know.

You could have been carrying the virus for years and never known it! Do I make myself clear? There is no test for it, until after a person has an outbreak. That is the first and ONLY indicator that a person has the virus. Until that time, you don't know if you are carrying the virus or not. One in five adults have it.

*EDIT* Great minds!
