ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Minnesota Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered that Democrat Al Franken be certified as the winner of the state's long-running Senate race.

The high court rejected a legal challenge from Republican Norm Coleman, whose options for regaining the Senate seat are dwindling.

Justices said Franken is entitled to the election certificate he needs to assume office. With Franken and the usual backing of two independents, Democrats will have a big enough majority to overcome Republican filibusters.

Coleman hasn't ruled out seeking federal court intervention.

What is somewhat misleading to the non political junkie is this business about a filibuster proof majority. Yes, it is a filibuster proof majority if all 60 Democrats(really 58 + 2 Independents) stick together. This is one huge IF.

I am a registered Republican and we can only hope, maybe he will take Douche Limbaugh with him.

Now he can sit in front of his mirror and say, "I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and by god people like me!"

This could be an interesting post if we stay on topic.
How close this election was, is and intication of how evenly divided our nation is on political issues.
If the democrats push through too much with the filibustor proof majority it could backfire.
If the independents and one or two conservative Dems. side with the Reps. and block legislation, that could hurt the other side of the aisle.
It could be a very interesting couple of years in DC

I realy think the Dems and Repugs use each other as an excuse not to do anything. For example when Bush had the white house and both branches he did nothing about Roe VS Wade a big issue with his supporters in the religouse right. Now Obama has the same advantage lets see what he does with it and will he do anything about the issues that the left supports? I suspect both parties are just differant branches of big business anyhow and we little people have no say or influence beyond casting a ballot for candidates that are as similar as a big mac is to whopper or coke is to pepsi.

Oh if only.. but hardly likely. He is a man of his word? Oh yeah.. lol He'll just convince his viewers that he never said it and they will believe him.. grin!

As for Al Franken, I enjoyed his book, though don't know how he will be in government.

He's a man of his word just like Sean Hannity is. Haven't seen 'ol Sean waterboarded for charity yet. Or did I miss it?

As for Al, I have a lot of respect for the guy. Listened to his radio show for a good while, including the dark period following the 2004 election. He never quit. He just worked harder. And now he's a U.S. Senator. Good for you, Al. Now go do us proud in Washington.

I think what's really interesting about it to me is all those votes they "found" AFTER the election was over that went so amazingly coincidentally for Franken ... I mean, the percentages were UNBELIEVABLE ... literally! explode

Well, one of the Independents is a self-proclaimed Socialist (Bernie Sanders - VT), so he will undoubtedly be with the Dems ... plus, there are way too many "RINOs" in the Senate, such as Collins and Snowe from Maine (just to name two), who are always willing to go against their party ... so I'd say it's a pretty uphill battle at this point if you don't want to see the radically liberal Democrat agenda win.

What's worse is, a lot of them won't be able to figure out WHY it hit them ... they thought they were voting for folks who were going to fix everything! If it weren't for the fact that it affects me, too, I'd be amused by them ... but instead frustrated frustrated frustrated

If there's one thing I've learned in politics, GG, it's that the pendulum never stops swinging. As bad as things seem for the Repubs now, it's just a matter of time before they have the Democrats on the defensive again.

I have my doubts that the Dems can hold together to push Obama's agenda through. Healthcare will be the big test. If the Dems can push through a healthcare bill with a strong public option, then I think they can do anything.
