Insecurity. Any complement or insult can be turned around depending oh how it is taken. For example:

Hey, nice shirt.

What's wrong with it?

Or:

That's a f*cked up shirt.

Yeah, isn't it cool?

I've written to a lot of people that thought I was insulting them when I was poking fun at them. Now it's become sort of a test I use. If they get it and throw it back at me I know this is the kind of person I want to get to know better.

Maybe its just me but I've been experiencing a lack of disrespect for my views and interests on this particular website. Give and take on debates I can handle but when I'm treated as though I'm the moron on the topic, that's when I say bye bye. Especially when its a history related topic that I've studied for the better part of 25 years and majored in college.

Just now someone posted a Smiley Yawn on the Game Show Awards Topic I started a little while ago. I would never do that to anyone's thread of messages. I try to respect all points of view.

There. I feel better now. :-)

Rick

Most of us are just plain goofy, rarely can one get into a good discussion, I would not take anything personal here.

P/S- If I were you Rick, I get another pic, that one is so nerdy, that is probably why they go after you so much.

Sarcasam... I find most people online don't get it. It's even worse with irony.

I think it might be cause we really don't know each other, so it's hard to know how something is meant from someone you really don't know.

In addition, there is no tone, sound or expressionsto hear when you read postings, a giggle, a pause, a smile...none of that.

Also just like how they say when you read a book, you use your own imagination when reading the words.

“Most writers are not quick-witted when they talk. Novelists, in particular, drag themselves around in society like gut-shot bears.”

We can say here what we don't have time for thinking up in real life.

I wonder why alot of what's written can be taken the wrong way so often??? Humor is such a vital and complex thing isn't it? Where are all the silly sarcastic 30 and 40 something people out there? What do some of you think about using sarcasm, teasing, and overly serious people?

I agree...I am full of humor and sarcasm....Gotta enjoy life.....

great quote and good point jb.
Personally I am put off by profiles that demand "..must be able to make me laugh.."
I am funny as heck in real life. But I am not here to find someone that I have to entertain. If you want to attract a lad put "..I will make you laugh.." on your profile..

I am very sarcastic. More than I am serious. Either you love me, or you don't.

I like humor if it is not at anyone's expense.

Once any human is made fun of though my humor is not there.

The aim of a joke is not to degrade the human being, but to remind him that he is already degraded.

I like to dispense with the humor and the levity when I'm here. In fact, most of the posts I put up will have something funny in it, even if if falls flat on its face.

Unfortunately, a great many of the other members here are too serious for their own good and couldn't take a joke to save their lives. If there's a chance they're gonna get offended by an obviously-inert joke or humorous anecdote, chances are they will. Not only that, but the humorless types will often shoot their mouths off and not hesitate to voice their displeasure, if only to piss on everyone's parade.

So you do the only thing you CAN do, which is zip your lip and not dispense with the levity.

Yeah. Who knew cats did the yoga thing, anyway? laugh

Anywhoo- the truly frustrating thing about this place is in having to contend with the wet blankets here. I couldn't tell you the number of times I got called out by some humorless, on-the-rag jerk-off who was too self-important to keep his or her own mouth shut for a second. I have every right to crack a stupid joke or put up a lame weblink as they do to gimme crap about it, you know?

It's almost like someone should start a dating site for unfunny, humorless, too-serious-for-their-own-good wet blankets or something.
