Topic: SPECIAL ED STUDENTS SUBJECTED TO RESTRAINTS??? | |
---|---|
fran....that was my point earlier about there are kids in regular and honor classes that should be restrained for the same reasons as special ed. just because someone is inspecial ed, doesn't mean they are going to be violent any more than someone in regular or honor classes I disagree on one point. Kids in special ed are more violent then regular and honor class children. I don't think that they should be restrained though. because they have ADD or a hard time grasping math? This is odd to me. I don't consider ADD special ed. Hard time grasping math is not special ed either. They are in the regular class rooms. They are the slow learners. Special ed, to me, is special ed school - severe disabilities - emotional, mental, and physical. |

Winx I don't think they are more violent but prone to uncontrollable acts and/or behavior. Not condoning, just explaining, as violence to me includes malice or intent. JMO. I see what you're saying. But...to me...those uncontrollable acts are violent. |

special ed classes here are for those that have a hard time learning in regular classes. ADD, dyslexia, etc are learning disabilities and having special ed classes...they can focus on ways to learn other than the way main stream learns. many kids in special ed at the schools near me have these learning disabilities. the ones with severe problems (autisim, retardation, etc) have more specialized in special schools or homeschooled etc.
this is why I say special ed doesn't mean they are more prone to violence than regular classes or honors classes. |

my son is ADD but in regular classes and receives etc help. he gets angry just like every other human on the face of the earth but isn't violent. I've seen high strung honor kids snap as well as anyone else

What you are saying about special ed classes is not how it is in my area. Children with dyslexia and learning disabilities and ADD are in the regular classrooms. There is help if they need it. That is the law. The ones that you are saying have the severe problems are the ones in the special ed school here. That includes deaf children, btw. |
