Anyone know how much electricity a teleprompter consumes if never turned off for four years?

it prolongs the life of your computer.

thats..umm not entirely true.. Ask any techie will tell you that turning on/off your pc frequently actually puts a lot of strain on it.
you increase the hard drive/cd rom or RAM failure by tenfold , depending on how frequently you turn it on/off.

I'd suggest to put the pc to hibernation.

Atlantis,

It wasn't talking about turning it off frequently. It was talking about turning it off at night. I do that anyway. I sleep better when electrical items are turned off at night.

LOL, speaking of which, I can't seem to get my hands on "Obama thanks himself" video. I want to archive it for my future children, as a proof that even being a president will not insure one that he is not an idiot.

Anyone has the link? It's truly historic, and a quite a change. Bush didn't go that far in senility.

I have always shut off my computer every night for at least 10 years.I have owned probably around 4 or 5 computers and I never had any problems due to them being turned off.One computer I had took a while to shut down and I often just pulled the plug out the back out of frustration.I still have that one as back up and it works just fine dispite me pulling the plug out the back probably 30 times while it was running.

Hmmmmmmmmm conservation? Let's see. I'm not on a home pc or laptop. I've got a blackberry duece daisychained into a blackberry pearl with bluetooth, auto dictation, and transmitting over satellite. I talk- it sends. My home is as efficient as can be. Soundproofed insulated floors. Radiance thermal painted walls with an R-19 rating. All outlets insulated. All flourescent lighting. Firedoors. Circulating fans. And I use furman power protectors and juice goose power protectors through the entire home protecting my electrical with a guarantee of steady clean even power with no spikes or curves, lightning strike protection, and one switch shutoff to current to my entire home. The 800 dollars worth of juice gooses have paid for themselves. My electric bill averages 25 to 35 dollars a month year round. Before I insulated and went to power conditioners my bill was 125 dollars a month year round. In all reality I did not go to power conditioners to conserve electricity. I went to them to get clean power. You see I live on a river and have dirty electricity caused by everyones home computers. My power plant is 30 miles up river. When you plug your computers 3 prong plug into a wall outlet your pc uses the power it can take. The rest is absorbed through the ground plug into your wall outlet which goes into the ground at your home. That ground electricity slowly feeds itself back to your local power plant to complete the circuit. I live on a river that runs my power plant 30 miles upstream. The beautiful river is my ground plug. Its everyones ground plug. So I have what they call alternating current noise- AC hum. Or in other words- dirty electricity. Caused by living on a river that's a live circuit. Its so strong I can touch my grounded stainless steel sinks and feel the electricity ground and get mildly shocked. Bad tv/ stereo reception. Short living appliances. Once I wired the home into power conditioners- its been great ever since. The power companies told me the biggest AC dirty line noise polluters are home PCs.

I'm leaving all my lights on, and everything plugged in. That way it will cost me more and I will have less for President Obama to take from me. Heck who knows maybe it will cost me so much I wont be able to afford it and get a handout from our President.

there is no excuse to waste money and energy! who is too lazy to turn off and on a switch?

laugh

what kind of nincompoop is so impatient that they can't boot up their computer while they get their cup of coffee in the morning or while they check their voicemail?

if their time is so valuable they can have their administrative assistant turn it on!

laugh

it is well known now that turning your machine off every night does in fact prolong the life of the machine. what do you think hibernation is? go ahead... look it up.

laugh

if you're gonna snooze, you might as well hibernate all the way!

laugh

i'm sorry. but this is like.....DUH!!

OK - so sometime you may forget....but really! there is no excuse!
man up and turn them off. a hundred bucks a year is $100. if you really don't care about $100 then i'll be more than happy to take it off your hands!

If you want the $100, you then go ahead and turn your comp. off. It's that easy.

As for the rest of folks, you have got to come up with reason that would make a personal sense, and beat the inconvenience.

Personally, nothing make my heart beat faster than an act of overloading the mother's nature "finite" resources.

It is interesting how folks arguing in favor of conservation, always reject a simple and sure working principle of pricing it correctly, by a free market mechanism.slaphead

NoGames,

What inconvenience is there when you turn your computer off at night?
I've done it every night since I've had a computer.
