Calling Enforcement "Un-American", Pelosi Speaks Volumes about the Obama-Pelosi-Reid Immigration Agenda
On Saturday, March 7, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) spoke to a group of legal and illegal aliens, criticizing law enforcement operations conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as "un-American." (Fox News, March 18, 2009. Pelosi made the comments at an event organized by Congressman Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) as part of his nationwide tour to promote amnesty for millions of illegal aliens.

Gutierrez is using his tour to push amnesty, develop a grassroots network, and collect petitions asking President Obama to "stop the immigration raids and [end] deportations…." (Fox News, March 18, 2009). Both Gutierrez' and Pelosi's support for ending the enforcement of immigration laws comes as the unemployment rate for American citizens and legal immigrants continues to climb, with the most recent numbers putting the rate at more than eight percent. (Bureau of Labor Statistics).

While Pelosi's comments sparked outrage from many Americans, her comments are entirely consistent with the steps Congress and the Obama Administration have already taken, many unnoticed by the media, to dismantle some of the most successful immigration enforcement programs. These actions include:

Delaying the requirement that federal contractors who receive taxpayer funded contracts use the E-Verify program to ensure that these contractors are hiring American workers instead of illegal aliens. (The Washington Post, January 30, 2009).
Allowing 300,000 jobs created by the Stimulus bill to go to illegal aliens by stripping a long-term E-verify extension from the final version of the bill. The House-passed bill included a five-year extension but it was stripped out of the final version of the bill that President Obama signed into law. (FAIR Legislative Update, February 17, 2009).
Suspending worksite enforcement which holds employers accountable if they hire illegal aliens. After ICE arrested 28 illegal aliens in a Bellingham, Washington plant, DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano launched a review of ICE saying she wanted "to get to the bottom of this." ICE agents were acting on information obtained after a lawful arrest but the Obama Administration's investigation is preventing ICE from following good leads and preventing crimes, even when that crime involves stealing the identity of an American citizen or legal immigrant. (The Associated Press, February 25, 2009).
Holding hearings on the 287(g) program and suggesting that the program should only be used to target enforcement at violent criminal felons. By limiting the effectiveness of this program in this way, Congress is refusing to enforce the law when it comes to many illegal alien including non-violent felons. (FAIR Legislative Update, March 9, 2009).
Blocking a long-term E-Verify extension from being included in the Omnibus Approps bill. The Senate rejected the Sessions' amendment that would have extended E-Verify for 5 years by using procedural tactics to table or "kill" the amendment. (Senate Roll Call Vote #93, 111th Congress, 1st Session, March 10, 2009)(a "yea" vote is a vote against the amendment).
Meanwhile, on the legislative front, the Obama Administration is signaling its willingness to move amnesty legislation forward this fall, a commitment that was reinforced during a meeting with members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. CQ Today reports that the failed legislation from 2007 is expected to serve as the "blueprint." (CQ Today, March 19, 2009). The biggest issue left unresolved, according to Frank Sharry, head of the amnesty advocacy group "America's Voice", is what kind of guest worker programs will enable more foreign workers to enter the country in future years. (Id).

The exact timing of amnesty legislation still is uncertain. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has indicated legislation will be debated on the Senate floor this year. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has wavered in suggesting a timeline for House debate. (Id).

"In the next 45 days, the administration will be using money from the economic stimulus to relocate 100 Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agents to the border to boost a program aimed at disrupting arms trafficking between the two countries. Homeland Security is doubling border enforcement task forces, to 190 officers, and sending 16 new Drug Enforcement Administration agents to posts near the border."

Pelosi is a locust! She wants to let more locust in out country.

Our country didn't used to be ours. We took it. We (almost all of us) are implants..immigrants. Our country is the land of the free ppppfffhhhhttt....at least it used to be. Just ask any native that has the info. White man took what didn't belong to him and broke it.

Immigrants only take the jobs that pay under what Americans would work for. Employers are the problem, if they would not hire illegals, illegals would not be here.

As for Pelosi, anything she said would be construed by the haters as wrong so that is no biggie.

It is illegal to hire any illegals here. As it is many places. Our state will prosecute anyone that sells an illegal a car or rents them an apartment, gives them a job. That is why an outflux of illegals left here.

We have many jobs here...mostly eating places at the moment and housing work is picking up as is road work...but these signs are not moving. Probably because most think they are too good to work at those places.

We have large unemployment here, but not as bad as some places, and places hiring. Go figure. Unemployment must pay better.

Typical liberal thinking.Lets reward those who break our laws and scold the ones who try to enforce it.Someone needs to throw that prune faced Pelosi out into the gutter where she belongs.I think Ms Pelosi needs to speak to the victims of families killed by illegal immigrants many of them who have been arrested many times in this country and let free.Doesn't she realize how many murders,rapists,drug dealers,and others who are fleeing from the law in Mexico to cross the border illegally into America?Does she really think it is just Mexicans coming over?One border patrol officer was asked what is the scariest thing he see's out there?He said "prayer rugs".

A subject nobody brings up is how is this fair to the other immigrants who came here legally?They filled out the paperwork,paid the money,went through the process,did what is right and now they can't get a job because of some illegal immigrant took theirs.

I am getting very tired of hearing that they are doing jobs that nobody else wants to do.That is utter BS!I know for a fact there isn't a job that any American won't do.A large number of illegal's do very well opening their own farms,body and repair shops,mobile lunch trucks,restaurants,gardening and landscaping services,house construction,and many others.Working the blue collar industry my whole life I have worked with a great deal of both legal and illegal immigrants and none of them were working for minimum wage.Many times they were making the same amount or close to what I was making which was in the $15.00hr range.If you got the skills to make that company money nobody cares where you came from.

i don't think you are confused. you make sense. the problem is times have changed and so have the laws. no matter who agrees with one or more of the laws...they are the laws. there are immigrants that have done what they need to do to become legal here.

This is not true.Before America was a country it was in control of the British.We went to war with them and they lost.We won the country fair and square including who ever was occupying it at the time.As far as the Native Americans...although the US government may have took over and killed some of the Native americans and their land.The majority of it was sold or traded to the US government as records will show.And of course it wasn't like the Native Americans controlled every square foot of land in America.

Not everybody who lives in America immigrated from another country.I have traced my ancestors living in present day America since the 1500's.That means anyone living in American prior to 1776 can legally say they have always lived in this country.

Please enlighten me.
