Illegal immigrants might get stimulus jobs, experts say

By William M. Welch, USA TODAY

LOS ANGELES — Tens of thousands of jobs created by the economic stimulus law could end up filled by illegal immigrants, particularly in big states such as California where undocumented workers are heavily represented in construction, experts on both sides of the issue say.

Studies by two conservative think tanks estimate immigrants in the United States illegally could take 300,000 construction jobs, or 15% of the 2 million jobs that new taxpayer-financed projects are predicted to create.

This is also making it harder for us LEGIT, REAL U.S. citizens to find work.frustrated

I'll believe it when I see it.

Btw, how many threads have you made about illegals? You made two today as well in the past.

Outsourcing also makes it harder for people to find work here.

I am concerned about finding solutions to Americans and Legal Immigrants being pushed out of the job market by a group who shouldn't be here in the first place.
I would believe you would have the same concerns.

As far as your off topic question, nunya bizness

I don't think the solution will happen any time soon. Too many companies depend on them - fruit growers, etc. I don't think enough Americans want to pick fruit, tobacco, etc.

Those jobs are covered by legal H2B temporary migrant work visas.
They have nothing to do with illegal immigrants!

i don't know who's read the paper lately, but illegals are getting more than fruit picker jobs, they are getting drywall, concrete, roofing, most of the construction jobs. i've had friends that have lost their businesses because of illegals. the illegals were sending the money back to mexico. they came over here took advantage of us and sent the money back home.

I've met a few illegals that did do that work. They quit and moved to St. Louis.

I've seen that in my city. They do send the money home to their families. Their families depend on that money to eat. Also, their old parents don't have Soc. Sec. or retirement. Their children are here sending money back to them too.

Who are you to say Americans and/or Legal Immigrants wouldn't do those jobs?
How many homeless and out of work people have you interviewed to come you that conclusion?

Most of the produce pickers are seasonal workers and are here legally. They get a special social security card and a limited green card.

This is true. They are here out of necessity not convenience.

The reason for this is the contractor does not have to pay all the taxes and insurance for these workers plus they can pay them less so the contractor gets more of the money from the job for him/her self.

Just because they do not speak english does not mean that they are illegally here. Misconception of the worst kind.
