most people jailed for child support are several years in arrears. If you're a couple months behind they don't put you in jail.

You can't blame being a few years behind on the economy

i was 5 months!!!! my friend was 3 months in arrears and because he didn't have a job and couldn't pay what was owed right then, they put him in jail for a while.

Food for thought here.

Many, many people are unemployed right now. Many child support payments aren't going to be able to be paid. This hurts everybody. The child support providers in these cases aren't criminals. I do wonder how it will all play out.

if it weren't for my family i would have been put in jail because of not being able to pay child support. in fact, i just found out that here in florida they will be bypassing the suspension of licenses and just throwing the person in jail reguardless of whether they have a job or not.

So...I've asked this to my ex when he lost his job once. Are you taking any job that you can to help your child - even McDonald's is an option?

yep, what you aren't realizing is that i'm not the only one in this position. there are thousands of us in my area. not enough jobs even at mcdonalds. five guys burgers in the next town over got 200 applicants in one day just to flip burgers.

I know that you're not the only one in that position. You did reply to my post that talked about how many people were unemployed.

I see men going to Labor Ready, shoveling snow, cutting grass, doing everything that they can to make some money.

Same here. If I didn't pay mine, the system would call me a criminal.
Mine is from way back. I am still paying on kids who are now 36 and 33.

As far as Obama's Illegal Aunt, she needs deporting but, what DHS Rep would want the job of shackling and hauling her away?

Somebody needs to do it.

our labor ready can't handle the amount of people in line at their doors now. they just did a huge piece on it in the news the other day. it's getting ridiculous, i've never been without a job before and it sucks.

It's the same in my city. The men still get up early and wait in the line and try to get the work. The lucky ones get hired.

not always true...most courts i know of would rather work something out. locking up someone behind (because of layoffs) doesn't help the child. they can't work when locked up. most defer the support but not if it goes on for a long time.

alot of courts try to help the child

rose, the courst are not interested in the people, they are publicly traded corporations with investors they have to keep happy. when they throw someone in the jail, they get federal money for that inmate. it's all about the money. they just use the idea of helping the children to make more money. i know, i've been dealing with them for 13 years now.

i am sorry of anyone has experienced this. but I do KNOW SOME GOOD JUDGES, COPS, LAWYERS ETC

these people DO care and aren't corrupt. they look at the whole picture

now let's turn this around (since we want to focus on this instead)
what about the child and the custodial parent? i understand people lose their jobs... but it's a struggle for the other side as well

It is a bad situation for everybody. It affects the child most of all and they are the priority.

ok lets look at the other side . a friend of mine is paying cild support for two kids to his ex wife , his parents have custody of one of the children , he has filed paperwork with both courts and childsupport and nothing has been accomplished . his son sees none of that money . is this right ?

my son's mother married a man that is well off enough that my bit of child support is like gas money to them.
