First, it said if you make under $30,000 it is free for federal and state but then it hangs up. But if you efile through the basic price it doesn't hang up. Hmmm.

Its not just me then. I kept going over the error message and check status.

If I read it right it said that some states won't let your efile.

Federal e-filing is free with a lot of websites.

check http://www.irs.gov/efile/index.html for information on your state.

Most sites also charge for state/local e-filing (if available)

I used taxact.com - worked great and was easy to use

A friend of mine used the Free TurboTax earlier this year, and even though it didn't state there was an error, somehow the efiling got messed up. He then went to H&R Block. They 'got him more money'.. by his words.. They resubmitted, and the extra deductibles payed for their service..

I was there when he was using TurboTax.. and from what I witnessed.. he prepared his form quite thoroughly and accurately. I'm not sure how H&R Block was able to get him a higher return, but it has given me serious doubts about TurboTax's accuracy in claims and deductibles.

Yeah. That is what upset me was that it said it was free. It was the hook that got me to efile with Turbo Tax. Because last year it was free and I didn't have a problem with the efiling. Also what upset me was the fact that before doing the free efile I had $56.00 dollars in my checking account and after the free efile I checked my balance again and it said I had $37.00. But still the free efile didn't work. It shows when you are doing the efiling that you are getting a secure connection. The bottom line is now I don't trust Turbo Tax even though I did the transfer with them. I am wondering if I got scammed.

I've used H&R Block's TaxCut for the past 5 years and have been very happy with the results. My brother uses TurboTax and he got audited 2 years ago.
I'm using the free tax filing from the IRS site this year since I don't have any deductions-lost house and child deduction in divorce.

I looked into the free tax filing from the IRS, it isn't very user friendly..

I need to sit down one day, find an SDK for this efiling ( if it's out there) and put it to a programming project. I would like to charge people 19 dollars for erroring on their taxes too.laugh

actually, I'm not that greedy.. I would charge 3 at the most.

EDIT: spelling
