ok - regardless of your politics - can we admit that the news conference was the most boring in recent history. Whatever you thought about Bush, at least he was entertaining and talked like a real person. This mess last night was a speech diguised as a press conference. 10 minute answer to the first question? Never actually looked into the camera as if he was talking to us.

An hour of gloom amd doom. Why should we spend any money when the warnings are so dire and make you just want to put your money under the mattress, stock up on gas, water and canned goods and pray for the end to come? There ARE serious issues and challenges for our country. But that Speech Conference did not change my mind about the Porkulus package that will be passed today unless Snowe, Collins and Specter find backbones. We need some kind of targeted intervention, but this massive governement spending is not the answer.

The inventive numbers are not informative. He said absolutely nothing new. The stimulus needs to have two phases and he refuses to see that - immediate needs and long term.

well i missed it
but i heard he blamed bush for the failed bank issue by permitting bad loans

funny isnt it clinton and his congress is the one that forced the loan approval of those without adequate repayment ability

back to the same old stuff so much for change

shhh...don't say that too loud...or the fact that Bush and McCain warned about Fannie Mae and and Freddie multiple times...and that out of Bush's 8 years we had 7 years of prosperity...even with 9/11 decimnating our financial center....shhh...don't tell...it's a secret

It was not meant to be entertaining, it was meant to inform the public. If you were looking for entertainment you chose the wrong channel.

Snowe, Collins and Specter did show backbone, frankly, and the package is not going to please everyone, it may not be targeted the way 'you' want it to be.

I wasn't aware that Obama had to look into the camera at a conference. If he was addressing people in the room he WAS addressing us.

What's funny is how we remember the Clinton years. As an average citizen myself I remember good times, being able to pay my bills ON TIME and with money left over to save or spend. But then we aren't talking about clinton...

Some of you either conveniently forget the things that Bush has said, or you were not paying attention. I didn't vote for Bush or trust him, but I did listen to all his speeches right from the start of his administration.

REMARKS BY THE PRESIDENT ON HOMEOWNERSHIP
at the Department of Housing and Urban Development
Washington, D.C.
June 18, 2002, 10:30 A.M. EDT

THE PRESIDENT (Bush): Well, thank you all very much for that kind welcome. I'm here for a couple of reasons. First, I want to thank you all for your service to the greatest nation on the face of the Earth. (Applause.) I'm here to celebrate National Homeownership Month, because I believe owning a home is an essential part of economic security. http://www.hud.gov/news/speeches/presremarks.cfm

That was just one speech on home ownership by Bush, vowing to spread the dream of home ownership.

Where were you living for the last 8 years? You might have been one of the very 'few' that saw prosperity.

I'd have to say Obama gave a good speech supporting the stimulus and handled himself presidentially but is that what investors that provide capital to business to expand and provide jobs wanted to hear?

By the initial reaction on Wall Street, the answer is NO.

Later today, when Geitner speaks Wall Street will further answer. Like it or not, jobs are directly tied to the successes of Wall Street. That's how businesses raise capital to operate and provide jobs.

The key to turning the corner is to find a solution for the bank mortgage meltdown.

out of the 8 years 'you' had 7 years of prosperity??? how'd you manage that? which 7 years and just how much did you prosper?

Not bashing anyone, just truly curious.

This economic situation I believe is inherited by Obama. Not entirely Bush's doing either, believe other prior Pres had a hand in it.

I thought it was a rerun.
He sounded like he was reading off the same paper he used in every other BS session he's given.
Yeah, Bush was a screw-up. He pushed the progression of his predecessors and added some. Yobama is no different than Bush.
He seems though, as to have lost some of his sheeple appeal.

Interesting. I was driving and it made me more alert. I wanted to hear what our President had to say about the stimulus package.
