I took a Rifle and Pistol Range class in college when I was younger. I still will never own a gun. I don't want one in the house with my child.
I hear "Protect myself" on this thread. A gun in the house with my child says it all for me. Also, if I had a gun, I believe that a burglar would be able to wrestle it from me and turn it on me. I feel that less guns in my city would make my city a better place. The thought of people walking around my city and into buildings with guns scares me. I've told my child that they are not allowed in houses that have guns. |

all that would mean is. the worthless cops would not protect us . in a house with kids. there has to be rules. no touching gun cabinet.

For those of you who own guns, what kind of training/how much was required when you bought one? what about all the idiots who drive cars? easier to get a DL than a gun,and cars kill way more people than guns.actually idiots that shot guns and drive cars This was about guns. Not cars. Lets try and keep it on topic? |

it should be mandatory that everybody carries a weapon.just think how much less crime we would have. Why would you want to force everyone to carry weapons? |

well where i live at. if i had to wait on cops. i would be waiting a very long time. when you train your kids. about what guns can do. not saying all kids listen. but the one you can trust. always turn out to be great kids.

THINK OUR GOV APPLIES HERE? |

And I certainly don't want to be swinging a bat at someone who could possibly have a gun and not connect the first time. If I am swinging in the dark it's more likely I will just piss them off and then they really will hurt me. No thanks, I will take my chances having a gun. The odds might not be perfect but at least odds are that I will have my gun when I need it. I assume, in that case, that your house has *zero* doorways for you to hide behind with a bat. And if you think your bat swing is less accurate with someone half a foot in front of you than your firearm aim is at someone several meters away in the dark, I think you are crazy. You are more likely to connect with someone is a meaningful way with a bat than you are with a gun from that distance. Plus, many gun owners *do* keep their guns unloaded and locked away for safety. I don't think you should be giving *yourself* as an example, but the average gun owner. You seem more responsible and knowledgeable about such things than the average person, I would assume. And again, I contest that trust people to "be responsible," to o "educate themselves," and to "do the right thing" is asking way too much. I can't swing a bat at my age as well as I can still shoot. Yes I have two door ways both with in 25 feet, small house and I can see both doors with no obstacles in my way. Plus no one can sneak up on me the way I have set up my landscape. They better have cat eyes to sneak up on me or they will break their neck before reaching either my front or back porch. Once there, they still have a problem. My dogs can hear a cricket fart from across the street. Very annoying but useful. Wait, do crickets fart? Who cares, they barked at something.. grin! I could hide behind the front door, but not the back door, either way it's a small enough house that they would be dead before they reached the center of the house if they were running only and who runs into a house to rob it.. lol I am small in size and the thought of swinging a bat at a decent sized man kinda gives me the giggles. I couldn't swing it hard enough in a small space to hurt them, dark or not, much less knock them out, but my trigger finger is very healthy and much stronger and faster, when using a gun. If they step inside, their dead, that's it. The dark will be on my side not theirs because I know the house. I know what you are trying to say and part of me agrees with you. I wish we didn't live in a society where we needed to protect ourselves from abuse, but that's not reality. I know I am being stubborn here as well, but I just don't feel safe enough to live alone with just a bat or a knife. I wish people were more responsible, but clearly not everyone is, so it's my only choice in my humble opinion. |

i watched 8 years of our rights slipping away.we are forced to fight in a war in Iraq, that our government started. we have soldier families on food stamps. somehow that is so wrong. regardless how i feel about the war, these men and women our putting there life on the line. there family should not have to suffer,

someone said it earlier, the right to keep and bear arms is the teeth of American Liberty.
it's what sets us apart from most all other nations on Earth. It is an armed constituency that keeps government power in check... If you think our government isn't capable of subjegating it's own people at gunpoint, then you haven't studied enough history. |

The gun didn't kill the kid, the stupid parents killed the kid. They can only blame themselves and leave that gun alone.
If a knife would have a trigger to be pulled to kill yourself, we would have millions of people dying from a knife-wound. The only reason it doesn't happen because to stab yourself requires a much greater effort. |

in order to become an american. you have to take lots of test, i might not no much, but i do no america history. i no some day the government will try to take our guns away, but as my late father use to says, only way is out of my cold dead hands.

25 years murder-free
in 'Gun Town USA' Crime rate plummeted after law required firearms for residents .\ . . As the nation debates whether more guns or fewer can prevent tragedies like the Virginia Tech Massacre, a notable anniversary passed last month in a Georgia town that witnessed a dramatic plunge in crime and violence after mandating residents to own firearms. In March 1982, 25 years ago, the small town of Kennesaw – responding to a handgun ban in Morton Grove, Ill. – unanimously passed an ordinance requiring each head of household to own and maintain a gun. Since then, despite dire predictions of "Wild West" showdowns and increased violence and accidents, not a single resident has been involved in a fatal shooting – as a victim, attacker or defender. The crime rate initially plummeted for several years after the passage of the ordinance, with the 2005 per capita crime rate actually significantly lower than it was in 1981, the year before passage of the law. Prior to enactment of the law, Kennesaw had a population of just 5,242 but a crime rate significantly higher (4,332 per 100,000) than the national average (3,899 per 100,000). The latest statistics available – for the year 2005 – show the rate at 2,027 per 100,000. Meanwhile, the population has skyrocketed to 28,189. continues: http://www.worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=55288 |

I've yet to see a dangerous snake in my yard. I've only seen harmless snakes. |
