You raised your child to be a honest, hard working, logical, productive member of society.....so cut the apron strings and let him live his life

you can give all the advice and guidance you want but ultimately the child will do what they want.

Just be there for when he needs you

My girlfriend when I was 22 was 31 and she had two boys 11 and 13! It only lasted a year but it was great. She was great.

So, you just never know...in a few years, 13 year age difference will only be a little bit naughty!

My 22 yr. old son is dating a 35 yr. old women. I think that's way to old I can see a few yrs. But my God she was graduating high school when he was starting kindergarten.

When I was 28 I dated a woman who was 38. We got along great and only split because her parents didn't approve. We still talk and hang out as friends but I think she may regret that it ended the way it did.

My point is I think parents need to learn when to let go. If your child (who by the way is an adult now...my mom refers to me as her "son" not "child") is happy, then you should be happy for them and be there if/when they need you; just don't try to run their life.

I'm dating someone 13 yrs older then me.But he still my baby even at 22

Hummmm now girl is that not kind of backwards thinking we can do it but they can not. Now if your son told you that you could not date someone older then yourself what would you tell him? Honestly!!!bigsmile

Let him live his life if in fact you step in and say anything it will only put a wedge within your relationship with your son.

There comes a time we must let our kids live their own lives.

Now this is where the double-standard starts to appear-

If the roles were reversed and a 35 year-old dude were dating a 22 year-old woman, there'd be all sorts of uproar and poop-flinging going on. The dude would probably be called all sorts of names and be accused of being some sex pervert or something, looking to "deflower" her.

And of course everyone'd be calling for the dude to be drawn-and-quartered.

Of course, since the younger person in the arrangement is the dude, the game changes. It's no longer quite the scandalous situation it could be and no one is alarmed by the fact that someone is dating someone else who is over ten years younger than her.

Beats finding love in a war-torn country...don't ya think?

Seriously, people find love in all different places. Age is just a numerical count of how many days one has lived, not a social pre-cursor to dating.

I always tell people, "All I can discern from your age is how many times you've ridden the planet around the sun."

In those terms, it's not particularly helpful or revealing.

In 50 years, he'll be 72 and she'll be 85. That's when the problems will start.

My 21 yr old son lives with his 37 yr old girlfriend and 2 of her children. She has a daughter that is only 3 yrs younger than my son.

Maybe he's secretly going after the daughter in some weird perverted scheme.

When I was 22 yrs. old, a 35 yr. old man would have been creepy to me.

It might be very tough for her son when he is older and She is much older but if he is lucky enough to have years as a happily married man with a ready made family that doesn't drive him crazy with the usually 20Something drama he might be lucky. lol

Age difference does not bother me at all, but if I dated or even had a friend of an older women who EVER called me a boy it would be over. Its about respect.
