As long as it's still a free country freedom of expression is for all people to enjoy...not just the politically correct.

Play nice & share your toys or be smacked on the nose for complaining. This reminds me of the guy who looks over the cubicle wall to point fingers at what someone else is doing. As the saying goes...live & let live.

I personally feel it should be kept out of the work place. The work place is open to all of employees and religion is a protected right to all of them.

Humm well in fact it is his place and he kindly provides the employees with a job.

As long as he does not force his Religion upon his employees and try to convert them I do not see where he is crossing any lines.

He lets you believe the way you want to and he believes the way he wants too. Some Religions have places blesses more for a good luck type of thing. Where some do it because they are trying to chase bad spirits away that they believe have invaded the space.

Regardless how others believe I still don't feel it is right for those that believe different should have to hide what they do believe within.

Out of Respect if you walk up to someone at a table that is praying don't most normally either walk away till they are through or at least be quiet until they are through? Does that really hurt any of us to show Respect for another and what they believe within?

But now I do not believe one should shove their Religion down your throat either. But then it comes down to it is his place of business and either one can deal with it or move on.

Or you also have the choice to tell them hey I respect what you believe in but I do not believe the same way and would rather not talk about religion at work. Might be surprised that they did not realize you felt it was being forced upon you.

Communication is very critical when it comes to things that bother us at work, home or even with friends.

Txsgal... you make a very good point. However in this case, you're talking about a manager, not a business owner. So this manager comes in new and has the place "blessed" by a priest. Tho I am able to over look most things and I try not to sweat the small stuff, I can see where this may bother some people. If they have a completely different religion or even no religion at all, having your new boss come in and have the place blessed can cause an uproar.

The only way it would bother "you"

is if you "gave" that blessing power...

Funny...

My best friend just had her baby girl baptized. When she invited me, I joked with her that I had some trepidation about the possibility of getting splashed and burned by holy water.

She gets the humor.

Funny thing is... I DID get splashed!

No problems... My skin is fine.

Bottom line is, although I don't go out of my way to participate in religious ceremony, I was happy to be part of what was special to my friend. Of course, this is a personal choice. No one from my work forced me to go.

It reminds me of the time many years ago that the Veterinarian I was working for, forced us to sit through an Amway presentation. I was very up-in-arms about it because I felt it had nothing to do with our primary purpose (animal medicine) and that they only had their own MLM agenda in mind. When I stated that I didn't wish to sit through the presentation, my boss gave me an ultimatum, asking me if I wanted to continue working for him. I would have been completely content with doing something else productive while they pushed their soaps and such. It was the fact that we were being forced that pissed me off the most.

Although I sat through the presentation, about a week later, I was given the option to take either a cut in pay or sign a letter of resignation. Of course I signed away and moved on.

In the case of your "manager" and the blessing of your work-place, I would hope that you had the option to leave the area during the process and the choice to not participate.

True but........unless you can find a policy within the Rules the Company has for the Employees to follow showing in fact he is over stepping his boundaries you may not be able to do anything but deal with it.

Actually if it was me and it was that disturbing then there is only one way to go and that is up above his head. Explain to corporate or the Owner what in fact is going on and let them deal with it.

Most would not like the idea that others have to deal with and issue that is uncomfortable to the employee's most try to make the work environment as comfortable as possible to all. And most will see your point of view due to Religion is not part of the work environment and in fact some could file discrimination charges due to they feel they having Religion forced upon them.

To me I don’t see a problem on the blessing actually but it all depends on how far he is taking the Religion issue with the employees themselves.

I think your boss attempting to force your interest and participation in Amway was waaaay out of line and today that kind of thing could be considered intimidation or harassment to join a cult, pure and simple and could be met with a lawsuit.

Amway. MaryKay, and other MLM companies are practically brainwashing cults depending on who you sign up under.
