I don’t know about you, but doesn’t online dating feel a lot like perusing a creepy Human Catalogue?
Serial dating is not for me... A lot of people seem to like the process of elimination approach... I've been more of a holdout for something beautiful (quality vs quantity)...
Physical attraction is very important, but meaningless without connection on so many deeper levels... I’m not here to just hook up.
I'm attracted to humor that's dry, subtle, intelligent, slightly sarcastic, but never mean spirited. I want a man with a defined edge, but underlying sensitivity and compassion.
Being raised by progressive thinking Bebop Jazz musicians, Mom (trumpet), Dad (principally tenor sax), made for a mostly fun and interesting childhood.
I'm not religious and have my own spirituality that requires no consensus. I love animals/nature, am against cruelty of any kind and will gently scoop up a spider in a tissue to release it outside. If it’s monstrously huge, I’ll go for the spider-in-a-glass/card stock-paper-technique (not having a giant spider crawl on me, if I can help it).
I've traveled to a few places around the world and would love to travel more...
I have a BS in Geology and MA in Psychology, sang professionally, filmed ballroom dance competitions, worked in Veterinary Medicine (domestic, exotic and wildlife), played in a drum troop and have been a counselor at and director of dual diagnosis substance abuse recovery programs. I enjoy sculpting, painting, a little creative writing, nature, mountains, and being actively involved in solutions.
Traditional Psychology seems short-sighted and 2-dimensional... It seems ridiculous attempting to nail the human psyche down to finite definitions. There’s still so much to be discovered.
Compassion and empathy can’t be taught like they’re theories... they have to be earned/learned through personal experience and modeled by parents and communities.
Having worked in Psychology for quite a few years, I see how inherently flawed the old models can be.
I'm interested in creating better models...
In my experience, the for-profit corporate world is, by its very nature, ill-fitted for the work of compassionate healing, which is why I finally separated from it.
I don’t have a single patriotic bone in my body and will never support a system that allows the perpetuation of a for-profit war machine. I’m not a sports fan and can’t hang with people who like hunting... Call me a tree-hugger.
I’m only interested in hanging with people who can appreciate and honor the amazing human who is my 12-year-old (soon to be 13) daughter. She's my number one and, for this reason, I'm very discerning about who I’ll allow in my life.
My daughter's dad lives in the UK and hasn't seen either of us in over 11 years. I've had 2 long-term relationships since him and have had only a few regrets. I'm forever grateful to her dad for helping create our beautiful daughter and have no emotional baggage with him.
YOU are not afraid to be open and vulnerable, when appropriate. Nor are you shy about being (tastefully) silly/raunchy. Your eyes and your words communicate with absolute clarity. You are definitely a driver... But, I am as well and you thoroughly enjoy my driving. Equality is a priority in all your endeavors... You're kind, grounded, and are probably an artist with oodles of creativity.
So, are you just a product of my imagination, based on all of the fluff in the overly marketed “happily ever after” story? Are you my tooth fairy... or are you a real boy?
