I've noticed theres always topics on here are saying "all men suck" or "all women are *******". Why do so many people generalize? I mean we can't know everyone, and assuming that everyone is an ass isn't really right, is it?

I mean we can't know everyone, and assuming that everyone is an ass isn't really right, is it? you are right 100%, that's why I always write (most, majority, a lot of...), safer bet!

I generalize all the time. However, my sociology degree might have something to do with that.
I also try very hard to make sure I am stating I am generalizing....but I err. So do we all. Usually in that situation it is simply venting. |

Why do you generalize that people generalize???

It's just easy to generalize. Put everyone in the same "likeness", makes life less complicated that way. |

Because making grand, sweeping generalizations that lump an entire gender (or ethnic origin) together is easier than actually getting to know people on individualistic terms. |

Would you want them to instead say "only Billy is dumb" and "why is Billy so dumb?" How else can we really talk about groups of others but in generalizations?
No offense to any Billy's. I just picked a random name so don't all Billy's hate me now or I'll generalize and say all men with names beginning with B are bad men. |

I don’t think it matters anyway because how many threads have we seen on these forums that might start off actually naming a specific person. An ex lover or an ex spouse. Then by about the third post, it has devolved into ALL men or ALL women.
