I've noticed theres always topics on here are saying "all men suck" or "all women are *******". Why do so many people generalize? I mean we can't know everyone, and assuming that everyone is an ass isn't really right, is it? I don't know. Why are you generalizing? |

Clearly there are generalizations being made by those that are indignant about the constant use of generalizations.

Would you want them to instead say "only Billy is dumb" and "why is Billy so dumb?" How else can we really talk about groups of others but in generalizations? No offense to any Billy's. I just picked a random name so don't all Billy's hate me now or I'll generalize and say all men with names beginning with B are bad men. Fuzzi Logic!  I only use fuzzi and cute logic.

Because making grand, sweeping generalizations that lump an entire gender (or ethnic origin) together is easier than actually getting to know people on individualistic terms. |

I think at times to many get up riled up due to someone else did not take the time to actually word their thoughts correctly. |

Because either they've encountered a large enough number of people who exhibit the quality/qualities that annoy them to make them think "all people like that" are like that, or they're ignorant. Or both.

I think they do it because it's easier to lump everybody together than to take the time to see each person as an individual. If "All Men Are Pigs," then that's settled. But if some men aren't pigs, then people have to start looking at each person separately, and that takes time and effort. |

because, like this topic, it's that sort of rhetoric that gets responses, and people don't like for their presence to go unnoticed. If it isn't arguementative than people wouldn't bother responding to it. Whether their responses are in an approving manner or not. You don't approve of statements that you know, and presume everyone knows, to be true. This would have to be a pretty factual statement though.. like mathmatic orientated.

Cause knowing everyone is an impossibility so you're put into a group based on how you look xD or how you act, it makes it easier haha usually it also get's you to know people cause in those topics at least 20 people who are generalized come in all determined to prove you wrong.

I'm sure there are several reasons, but the one that appears to be most popular is a recently failed relationship. Very few people want to take any responsibility for failure and if it's been a pattern in their life then all members of the opposite sex must suck. After all, it's never their fault.
