Apparently mine are so high that I can't even get a date.
laugh

Mine, too. Will I apologize for that? Not a chance.

Nope, me either.

 As we get older do you think we lower or raise our standards on people?

Mine seem to go up higher every day. I am already excluding 172% of the female population from eligibility.

For what, exactly, are they not eligible? laugh

I don't even know anymore....!

I think as we get older our priorities change. Lower or higher is objective.

I think we raise our standards being we learn from our past mistakes... I hope.

My tolerance for dealing with people has probably gone down as of late. It gets tiring when you gotta deal with other peoples' crap, you know?

My standards have never change and I never exclude anyone they do that by themselves.

I raise my standards on how/where/with whom I want to spend time.

In doing so, this fulfills the old adage: As one gets older the pickings get slim, but the people don't.

Are you talking about choosing a partner or spouse or friend?

I'm not sure if they get higher or lower. I think they just change. The things that were really important to you when you were younger aren't as important but other things that weren't so important then become deal breakers as you get older. I think this is especially true if you have children.

i think that as you get older and hopefully wiser you start to realize the things that are truely important and you adjust your standards accordingly.
for me, i would say that mine have gone up.
i have always wanted someone that i was physically attracted to, but when i was young nothing else mattered.
now, i still want someone that i am physically attracted to, but i also want someone that i can connect with and who isn't going to cause me headaches.

Your standards will raise with your self esteem and they will fall if you lack self esteem.

(My standards are pretty high cause I think I'm the cat's meow. LOL laugh laugh laugh )

(and at the same time no man in his right mind would want me for a wife, I will make his life a living hell. )

I think we realize what is really important and adjust the standards we have.

My standards have gotten higher; when I was younger I would make excuses for people, give them a chance to prove me wrong. Now I don't bother and go with my instinctual no.

I raised my standards a great deal! I actually didn't want someone who had been married or who had children and I actually found that person or he found me.

I think they just shift. What was important when we were younger are maybe not as important now. When you are younger, looks are usually #1, at my age, looks are important, but they are not the determining factor. Don't get me wrong, there absolutely must be physical attraction there...otherwise I would still be married!
