I don't think age has much to do with it.

It seems when you get older you aren't willing to put up with as much bull from people.

It's like you've been there, done that, don't want to do it again.

When we lower them, the rate and depth of that lowering depends on the experiences (# of failures) we have along the way, any childhood traumas we may have experienced, how attachment hungry you are (neediness), level of denial (I don't have a problem), level of stubborness about needing to change (I'll die trying), refusal to get help (pride).

I think mine are higher in some places and lower in others. I have raised my standards when it comes to things like communication, honesty, maturity, and ability to commit. I have become more realistic when it comes to the exact age and phyisical appearance of a person because those things really matter less in the long run.

One would think so, but I'm a bit of a gourmand. I know what I want and I won't settle for anything less, because that wouldn't be fair to the other person either.

Mine seem to go up higher every day. I am already excluding 172% of the female population from eligibility.

For what, exactly, are they not eligible? laugh

Idon't think I've raised or lowered anything...my standards are just different now. I think it comes from the realization that a lot of stuff that used to seem important to me either doesn't last or doesn't get you through the rough spots in this life.

I don't worry about how people look so much anymore...not like the younger folks around here do, anyway. Those good looking folks at 20 aren't gonna look a whole lot better than the rest of us at my age, you know? I look more at a person's smile and their eyes. I'm drawn to people with smiles and eyes that seem warm, welcoming, honest and open.

Character, and having similar interests and personal philosophies seems more important to me now. People who are generous with their time and hearts, are positive and hopeful, are direct and honest...people who are willing to take a little risk and reach out to others. Those folks are the ones I think of as being 'hot', at this late date. There was a time that none of that mattered to me when in a new relationship. Now, I see there can be no worthwhile relationship...friend or otherwise...without those qualities.

Oh, I think mine have gone up. Yet I get a lot of people who seem to think mine are going down and get mad when I'm not interested.
