Oh! Clearly since I'm sitting here typing that isn't my current frame of reference but GOOD ANSWER!

Since they saw the error in their ways, and gave me my vacation after all (who said you couldn't say something without opening your mouth)......I was thinking of doing something productive today, what should I do?

Try blending & sifting all the dry ingredients together & cutting in the shortening only until the the largest particles are bb sized sized. After adding the milk, handle the dough as little as possible. Too much kneading makes them tough. It's the opposite of yeast doughs. To avoid rekneading the scraps from cutting circles, I make square biscuits.
Make sure you are using AP flour & not bread flour, which has too much gluten for biscuits. Cake flour will work,if you have it around, but is more expensive & unnessasary.
Some people swear the secret is to always use buttermilk , but it's not a staple in my kitchen & who wants to go looking for it when you want biscuits?

I've been told I overwork the dough...probably true. Thanks though...I was using a Bisquick type product that I happened to have on the shelf (where did THAT come from) unopened for ages. Other than really the handling thing, there is little more I can influence in that scenario.

Hi JAG - just reporting in after the interview with the long time coworker/friend. It was fine and comfortable...I was able to just be myself and that worked (although whether or not I get the job is still a mystery :) Funny though...we both showed up in black slacks, white shirt and red jacket/sweater...looked like we'd called each other like Jr. High girls! LOL! Also - we both mentioned that we hadn't had our happy hour together (when I'm in town working) for many months but that probably it was better that way...we'd both thought about tonight and figured it wouldn't look right - she went so far as to say it would be just her luck for another candidate to walk in and see us. Crazy. Anyway, it went well but we'll see...thanks for the pep talk and advice last week.

That networking is good but not good enough. Go online to careerbuilder and search for jobs in your area and send that resume to EVERYONE!!! Apply for some you think you are barely qualified for cuz you have awesome credentials to send now so don't be timid. JUST DO IT BABE! (cheers for KymmieSue!!! Rah! Rah! Rah!)
