Biblical Violence is the Real Porn

This thread is NOT about porn in general. I use the term to describe the hate-filled pages of the bible, as read and studied by millions and sadly believed by millions who have NEVER read it…

Now porn is not necessarily a serious problem (other than it generally teaches lack of respect for a woman's right to say NO). Mutual agreement of it between consenting adults is NOT a problem…

Violence IS a real problem since it teaches lack of respect for ALL human life. Lets look at what the Bible has to offer:

1) In Leviticus 25:44-46, the Lord tells the Israelites it's OK to own slaves, provided they are strangers or heathens.
2) In Samuel 15:2-3, the Lord orders Saul to kill all the Amalekite men, women and infants, even the unborn are murdered in their mothers bellies.
3) In Exodus 15:3, the Bible tells us the Lord is a man of war.
4) In Numbers 31, the Lord tells Moses to kill all the Midianites, sparing only the virgins.
5) In Deuteronomy 13:6-16, the Lord instructs Israel to kill anyone who worships a different god or who worships the Lord differently.
6) In Mark 7:9, Jesus is critical of the Jews for not killing their disobedient children as prescribed by Old Testament law.

This is just a tiny selection of what the scriptures give. Violence can be found throughout the O.T. and N.T. Some passages appear so vile they are unthinkable, let alone readable. What are we supposed to make of them?

There is so much contradictory information in the Bible. I've tried to read it, honestly tried, and gave up. I am saddened by the violence and the unkindness towards people who are different. I think people read the Bible with a filter in the brain - they keep whatever quotes support their view and leave out the rest.

Odd you should relate pornography to the writings of the Bible. Men wrote the Bible.

Thanks, ok, but why would it be odd though? Lots of women indulge in pornography, but alas, this is off topic.

*The original thread is still available and I will be using it further, should anyone want information to it I may be able to provide the link through email... not sure of the rule about this tho. :)

Your definition of pornography is somewhat inaccurate. But, the analogy still stands.

I wonder why the view of those who believe a man can do whatever he wants. Sleep with whatever he wants. Act however he wants. Attacks whatever he wants.

Laws are made for the law breaker not for him who does not break them.

To him thier is no law. Because simple intelligence tells him what is right and what is wrong.. Shalom..Miles

Yes, good old common sense dictated what is right from wrong - not "God" and the only Hell is the one you make for yourself - right here on earth - the same applies for Heaven.

The scriptures are common sence. More than any man can imagine. Thats why we are in the hole we are in now is because of what man wants and decides and refuses discipline and correction.

Discipline and correction isn't the answer.

Jesus is the Answer.

By who's common sense?

Who thinks it's common sense to murder children like the biblical God instructed people to do? huh

Not me.

Who thinks it's common sense for a supposedly all-wise supreme being to solve all his problems using the same ignorant violence that mortal men used in the dark ages? huh

Not me.

Who thinks it's common sense for a suposedly fatherly-image God to ask people for blood sacrifices to appease him for their disobedience? huh

Not me.

When did the biblical God ever solve a problem without using violence? Even the supposed crucifixion of his own son was a horridly violent act that was supposedly planned by God. huh

Im my humble opinion the biblical story makes not sense at all. This is why I'm certain that it can't be the word of any all-wise supreme being.

Who would think that it's common sense for an all-wise supreme being to raise his "human children" on a system based entirely on reward or punishment and playing silly guessing games? huh

Not me.

In fact, if I saw a human raising their children like that I wouldn't think very highly of them.

Even mere mortal men have moved beyond that kind of ignorant mentality.

Thats why we are in the hole we are in now is because of what man wants and decides and refuses discipline and correction.

Are you kidding me? Modern societies were driven by Christianity and the Biblical Myth for the bulk of modern society. It was precisely that mentality that got us into the hole that we're in right now.

In fact, just look at the Middle East! The hatred hasn't stopped yet! ohwell

Nailing someone to a pole is never the answer MorningSong.

Let's not teach our children that idea, alright?

Surely an all-wise creator could have come up with a better solution than more violence.

What kind of an example would that set?

Clearly it's not a wise thing to do, and therefore cannot possibly have been the idea of an all-wise creator.

That would be a truly limited God who can't come up with something better than that.

Anykind of violence is terrible regardless from what group of believers it comes from. I hope in the future that when a human being seeks a sanctuary to rest his mind and soul that the study of violence is out of the equation in any belief system.

each one reads and understands what each one wants.
the individual who reads something as the Bible and stays just with the literal meaning of the Bible, is like the one who cannot see farther than his/her nose.
Those who argue about violence in the Bible are the same as the christian fundies, the only difference is that the former argue the other way around from the christian fundies, but the end both of them are the very same thing. LITERALISTS.

Then MR. Lonely Walker... are you "lonely" because you want to be?

This is your opportunity to spin what you read not to read what you read, k?
