I think you are taking EVERYTHING being said personally. We aren't talking about you! We are just answering the question honestly and saying what we think.
Geesh. Egocentric.... look it up. It might be your thread, but it's not all about you. |

guess it's all up to the individual, while I lived in NYC, cars were a luxury as I used public transportation quite often, however, when I moved to Florida cars are more of a necessity than a luxury. Public transportation stops running at a certain time, only runs in a select area and taxis, hella outrageous. Hell, I wish most of the drivers here were as honest as you, not drive because of lack of concentration. Can't tell you how often people use stop signs as a parking spot. Thank you for that kind post. One reason I do not drive is the very real fear that she and I could be in a serious accident because I missed that traffic light. Now she's a parapalegic, and I am injured but still have the full use of my arms and legs, and start to die inside because of what I did to her. |

With that last paragraph, I wasn't referring to you. But there are others on here that apparently believe the inability to drive somehow makes one less of a person. Or a terrible person. Well I assure you I do not think that in the least like I said I commend you for not driving at all. But for me if I'm seeing someone it is a must that they do drive due to the distance of everything. Now if I lived like close to downtown somewhere that everything I did was like in walking distances or a quick bus ride then I would think different but I don't. Just to work is 35 min drive to see family is just as far. So for me it is very important to have something to drive. |

Blaze...I don't drive either. I haven't driven in 20+ years. For me, it was because of panic attacks I had when I drove. I was forced to accept that it was much safer for me and others on the road not to get behind a wheel.
My panic attacks have long since gone, but now, for me, it's a matter of economics. I simply cannot afford a car, the insurance, gas or the upkeep on one. I have always managed to get by. I walk and ride a bike and when a ride is necessary I have had friends who were more than happy to give me a lift. I have never, however, taken advantage of folks and do my best to not make a pest of myself. I haven't, until now, openly discussed the fact that I don't drive for fear of the same kind of attitude as was seen here in this thread. It is, however, stated in my profile, so I know whomever approaches me is aware of it and doesn't have a problem with it, and there ARE folks who don't find it an issue. There are a lot of folks who don't drive. It is not a matter of laziness, selfishness or inability to deal with stressors. You will find there are folks that will take the time to get to know you and find there is so much more to you than the fact that you don't drive. |

Lil and Blaze - wish there were more people who currently driver that would see this and admit they have no business on the roads.
A vehicle is and can be used as a weapon, those who are not sure of their abilities should not be behind the wheel. For their sakes as well as others. As far as dating goes, if he doesn't drive I hope he can ride a horse take the bus, train, make other arrangements and I'd see no problem in dating him. Afterall, I'd be dating him not his vehicle |

Thank you, both of you fran and lil...was starting to get worried that the whole world would start to look at me for the car I don't have...rather than the heart I have to give.

Afterall, I'd be dating him not his vehicle The fact that I don't drive has not kept me from forming relationships. I will admit though it probably has turned more folks away than attracted them, so be it. Those relationships may not have worked out, but it had nothing whatsoever to do with my not driving. Folks can and do work around it. |

Okay okay I confess if I meet someone that did not drive it does not mean I would not date him just that it would be a sort of issue. Due to distance and being able to get together.
I do not think it makes a person any less then a person and did not mean to sound that way if in fact I did. Just that it would be and issue for me to not have that freedom of them getting around as far as us going places together for I'm not one to hop on a bus. Instead I'm spoiled to having something to drive and being able to go when I want to and where I want to. |

I do not drive due to eyes problem and ever since I don't drive I walk or bicycle everywhere and I find that 75% of drivers are hazards on the road how many times have I seen people not making their stop signs or passing on a red light or talking on the phone or doing whatever else while driving.
They all say the same thing I am a good driver and everybody else is the bad one but let me say this if goverments were not so prone on collecting the money of drivers a lot would never be allowed to drive. Not because you have a drivers permit that it means you know how to drive so people take from someone that has often been nearly hit or runover by distracted drivers please wake up before you kill someone. |
