No I don't think so. It could be based solely on their religious beliefs, so that wouldn't make them a bigot.

Hmmm tough question!

Me, personally, being a redneck hillbilly hick, I'm not against it. I have a sister who likes what she likes.

I've always told her, "I like (Richard, or the shorter version D!ck), NOT Jane". biggrin

That's a tough question. I think it all depends on the person and if they speak of it with hate.

I do believe you are right:

From The Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary:

Main Entry: big·ot
Pronunciation: \ˈbi-gət\
Function: noun
Etymology: French, hypocrite, bigot
Date: 1660
: a person obstinately or intolerantly devoted to his or her own opinions and prejudices ; especially : one who regards or treats the members of a group (as a racial or ethnic group) with hatred and intolerance.

You can be against such things without being blindly devoted to the point of hating/causing hatred against it.

Being against gay marriage does not make you a bigot. However, refering to homosexuals as a "bunch of homos" in my opinion makes you a bigot.

Uh uh,

Hating and being intolerant is a lot different than not agreeing.

I do not agree with a lot of people but I dont hate them for what they think and I can certainly tolerate them.

I have my beliefs and I respect yours.

I am intolerant of Abusive people and sexual molesters.

I just dont agree with same sex marriage.

i think that some people who are against gay marriages, don't really oppose the union, but are rather hung-up on the term 'marriage' and feel that it can only be between a man and a woman.

i'd even go so far as to say that a person who doesn't accept, understand and/or even agree with a gay lifestyle, can still be fairly tolerant towards gays and lesbians. i wouldn't label those people homophobic in the least.
