Topic: Pet Owners?? Please help... | |

Hello all
Please help. I'm moving into a home I just purchased, and the only thing it didn't already have versus ones I'd also looked at was a backyard fence. Champ is a 5 month old Boxer, so he's very active and loves to run. My backyard, however, is behind somewhat-busy street and the only thing that will keep him seperate from it are a couple of bushes. Does anyone know about or have used those electronic collar/fence mechanisms? I guess essentially what it does is sends a signal to your dog not to go beyond the mark, and it's attached to his collar. I don't want to hurt my baby, but I don't want him to run out in the street either... Please help |

all my cousins have ones for their dogs, and they say it only takes one time and they get the hint that they shouldnt go past that point, their dogs have never been past the front or back yard again, just dont let them out all day or anything alone, then they just might be mad and try it if you know what i mean lol, i never got one for my dog fortunatly she has a fence she can run in. hope that helped, good luck!!!!!

my sister has that invisible fence, she loves it. It works really well. It doesn't hurt them. And it's a whole lot less painful than being hit by a car.

You may want to consider chaining the dog up instead. I use one for my dog whenever he goes out. |

It has different settings for your dogs... just don't turn it up to high. It won't injure them if it's used properly.

It won't hurt him and if he's a relatively calm and reponsive dog he'll learn quikly . But I personally don't think they are a substitute for a run or a kennel .My dog was attacked by another that ran right through they're e fence when I was walking mine on a leash! And theres always the chance if your not out there at all times of some little kid taunting or calling him to come through .Hope that helps a little

we used to have one
our neighbors have one don't get the one you have to bury the wires into the ground there is a signal one you can use that lets the dog go a certain amount from your house...then they get a warning beep...then a shock it works |

My neighbors used one with their dog, once she learned the boundaries, they took the collar off and she doesn't stray. I have a dog, he's an inside dog, however, I'd rather he feel a little jolt rather then someone killing him or stealing him.
Funny, the thread and now at the top of the page there's now an ad for invisible fences. |

I asked my vet about those, and he said they are ok as a last resort. But they do send a shock to your dog.I don't like the idea at all!

I dunno if I would ever use a shock collar on my dog. and it wouldn't cost that much more to just build a fence

I have a friend that has one. It works great. He has it on the minimal setting so it really doesn't bother his dog(he still runs away sometimes). However it also has a remote to give another shock which he returns real quick when it happens.
My friend tried it on his wrist to see how bad it was and it wasn't to bad even on high. |

i had a dog
smart as hell we had the invisible fencing he wore the collar when he realized his boundaries...he'd get close enough to it we'd hear 'beep beep beep beep' constantly look outside he'd be sitting there bucking and jerking a bit til the battery went dead... then took off |

maybe I don't know much, but I would never train my dogs with pain
dogs instinctively want to do what you as their master want them to do. They just have to know what you want. I know sometimes with all the smells and temptations they just can't help themselves (especially puppies) and if your on a busy street it only takes one time for them to wander off and get hurt or killed. If it were me I would spend a little bit on some chain link and put up a fence |

I don't want to hurt my baby, but I don't want him to run out in the street either... Please help I considered one of those systems and did a little research. I was told that the frequency of the system may "connect" with the frequency of some garage door openers, which can result in a shock at times that neighbors are using their garage door openers. This would send a confusing message to the dog to be shocked when not approaching the perimeter... Not to mention be a potentially cruel and painful experience. |

I wouldnt chain him up, or use a shock collar.
Try to turn him into a house dog. Let him out to use the bathroom and watch him close, so he doesnt try to run in the street. Walk him frequently. |

call invisible fence...I have two dogs, and had it installed when the were a bit older then yours...they run it underground along your fence line...and...all the way around your whole property...also...they come out and train you and the dog...it works perfect...one last point...on these collars...the dog hears ring and has a couple of seconds to react...they seldom if ever get zapped...good luck...
