Card drawn: THE LOVERS
Monday Night: 12/8/2008

Reading is for tomorrow's general energy.

(Although time, where the implicate order is concerned, is a bit ambiguous.)

All card readings are readings of the present moment and the events currently in process.

~ THE LOVERS

The Lovers card is all about making a decision and it is about choices, duality, and decisions that sometimes concern a love affair. This card points to sudden and unexpected changes in a relationship.

The words that popped out at me are "sudden and unexpected changes."

Big changes are involved with the current energy and some people will feel divided about a major issue in their life.

The advice is to go with what feels right.

It is such a great card. I opened my deck of cards for the first time yesterday and shuffled them extensively to eventually split the deck in half and pick one card. I flipped it over and what do I get - The lover card.

I thought that is just brilliant. I wouldn't want any other card but that one. In the long run it made me feel good. If it had anykind of significants of why that one was taken, I don't know, but it was nice.

Very nice drawing by the way. I really like the card you show.

I am also curious to know the last time you did tarot readings online and I asked about a deeping understand - did you so happen to have in my situation the Hierophant drawn? I ask because your answer if I remember correctly was that I am seeking a deeper meaning to life in the exploration of spiritual matters.

If you can't remember about me at the time then I understand. I am just curious if that card was drawn when you did the drawings at the time.

No I believe it was the hermit.

The drawings I will show in this thread with each card reading are from the Tarot Deck that my friend Darla and I created a couple of years ago.

They are not the deck we are doing currently. We have 18 more cards to finish designing and we will be done except for writing the book that will go with our deck. Both Darla and I will write a book to go with our new deck.

Card drawn last night: THE LOVERS

~ THE LOVERS

The words that popped out at me are "sudden and unexpected changes."

Okay yesterday was one of the nicest days weather wise that I had seen for a while and today the roads are icy and snow covered. You might say that already this morning there are sudden changes ... in the weather.

I did most of the design on this particular card. It shows a woman who has received a marriage proposal from a King and yet her heart belongs to another. He is the Knight pictured to the left. She is in his arms.

The lovers card is a major arcana which sometimes makes it more significant than a minor arcana card. It represents making a choice, sometimes the choice of who we will marry. That is a choice that impacts a large portion of our lives.

But it can also mean another kind of choice that has us a bit conflicted.

It is 8:02 a.m. here in my town and my only choice this morning was whether to be grouchy or not.

On a personal note: I felt grouchy when I got up, but I can decide to change that attitude. Bad attitudes attract bad days, so I will take a few minutes to feel love and gratitude.

Since I drew this card last night, I think I will draw another card for the energy of the present moment. See the next thread.

Card drawn: King of Pentacles. He is the square peg in the square hole, and the energy of my father. This card definitely is about my father.

Because it was about my father, I decided to draw another card to see what was up. I was a bit annoyed with him this morning because he was so grouchy.

The second card was the page of cups.

This card is a message to me that my father is like a child and the advice is to love him like a child in the moment and to not become impatient and grouchy with him.

This card's advice for Spirituality is "Don't lose sight of your emotional enthusiasm. Study the esoteric sciences that seize your interest and cultivate an inner stillness. (Power Tarot Book.)

Okay I get that message.laugh

This very good stuff. It shows me how tarot cards are done. Thank you.

Now is 80 cards the limit for a Tarot Card Deck or have some readers created bigger decks for more complicated readings? Why 78? Was it because the idea came from a deck of cards before turning them into tarot cards?

Our deck has 80 cards because we added two. The two we added were warning cards, the dark Magician and the dark priestess.

Here is part of an article I wrote about the tarot. At the bottom of the page is a link to it on my queen of coins website.

___________________________

"Tarot cards evolved from ancient playing cards and they differ from standard playing cards only in the fact that more cards were added to a deck of regular playing cards. The added cards were the trumps known as "trionfi" which means triumps. Also added were four queens and the fool.

So why add 26 more cards to the standard deck of cards? It was for the development of the game. Today, tarot games are point-trick games in which you must trump if you have no card of the suit led. The 21 new trump cards were added to perform the then new role of being trumps. The four queens eventually replaced the pages in a modern standard deck of cards, but the pages still remain in most tarot decks as part of the court cards.

If we are looking for the origin of what we know as the traditional occult tarot decks we see today, then we have to look to the origin of regular playing cards in general. If you insist on drawing a hard line between regular playing cards and occult tarot cards, it might be hard to draw such a line because regular playing cards have been and are still used for occult purposes and divination, and tarot cards have been and are still used for playing card games. There is no real hard line between the two. It is all in how they are used and in how you think of them.

When looking for the origin of tarot cards themselves, you will find that most historians agree that the first deck of tarot cards was created in Milan (northern Italy) sometime in the early 15th century. These cards were designed as playing cards. The thing that set this new card deck apart from others was the addition of the four queens, the fool, and 21 trump cards.

Yes, I believe there are 78 because they developed out the a regular playing deck. You can use reversals in order to gain more meanings to the cards.

Wow Jeannie! You surely make people read alot of paragraphs on your threads (just playing around)laugh

After reading all this I really want to know how to play the game with the tarot cards. I think that will bring some joy and laughter with my family.

Yes I just read about the reversal and that many don't use it. At least that is what it says in the book I am reading about Tarot Cards.

I wouldn't mind creating a tarot deck with 200 cards, but that is a bit to ambitious and probally not neccessary. I would do it just to have something different in the Tarot World for those who like it complex and of course are in love with artworklaugh

I like simplicity though that is for sure.

I don't know how to play the game but I understand it is a a trump game similar to bridge, but I don't know how to play bridge either.

I never did care for playing card games. laugh I just like to look at the pictures.

Yes the artwork is what made me buy the cards, the tarot reading may be a bit difficult for me, and the card game may be just the thing I will do with the cards. If I don't find out how it is played then I will invent a game just for funlaugh Aren't I a nutcaselaugh

In reading tarot and doing magick I prefer to keep it simple. the more complicated you make it the less effective they are. At least for me.

You are probably right. It was just my excuse to create illustrations for fun.laugh

but to draw 200 in the fashion and as good as the tarot cards would require a very long time to do. I would be most likely already looking at a different interest by thenlaugh

Creating a tarot card deck is a lot of work but you can learn a lot about reading the tarot doing it. I would have never taken on and finished the task if it had not been for my friend Darla who's passion is tarot and fine art.

Originally we had planed to create the designs on the computer and then paint them on canvas... but the computer designs were looking pretty good so we decided not to do the paintings because it would have taken us too long.

Now I was very glad about that because I was looking at spending the next five years of my life painting these cards... and Darla is a tough task master and very picky. I would have ended up killing her I think. laugh We would never had gotten through all of that.

So now I have a garage full of canvases and I can paint what ever I want on them.

I think this tarot card deck and I hope I am still on your list to buy a copy will be a big success. I mean just to think about a tarot card deck in a barnes and nobles store going from 20 to 80 dollars is pretty amazing let alone when there are at least 5 copies in every bookstore in the nation. It can be a big business and it may even get bigger in the future because people are starting to realize that there is more then just the traditional religions one is accustomed to. One can actually dig deeper spiritually and learn about other belief systems.

What better way then to learn about spirituality then to look at fantastic pictures. It is much better then trying to decipher a confusing book with old english (thou, shallth, etc. etc.) in parabels, odd lining, and so forth with nothing to look at. For me depressing.

I want to have that surge in my soul to feel excited about what I discover and good illustrations, some imagination, and alot of self discovery certainly comes from a Tarot Card.

Although I know so little about Tarot Cards, just the fact of looking at the cards and laying them down to create your own stories is a great feeling even if I don't know what the hell I am doing or following the rules of the book provided for the tarot deck. laugh

I was watching television and a preview came on for that new movie "The Day the Earth Stood Still." This is actually a kind of a remake of a very old movie, but it looks like it will be a good one.

Anyway, the ad was saying the words: "The world is not ending, we are."

Then I drew a Tarot card from my deck.

It was "The World."

Group reading:

With this card, the Fools journey ends; he arrives at his destination. The goal has been reached and all the elements of a situation have been drawn into a synthesized whole.

We reach a deep understanding of the issues that concern us. We realize that everything in life starts within and radiates outward and that our most private beliefs create the reality that we live.

Everything is available to us. Now it's time to free ourselves from restriction and expand our horizons.
