This thread is about gay marriage not HIV.

Maybe we can start a thread on heterosexual marriage and list all the reasons it shouldn't be allowed. Let's see, divorce, domestic violence, marital rape, infidelity, child abuse...so many to pick from.

If heterosexual marriage wasn't already legal there are plenty of good reasons to keep it illegal.

Conservative does not equal having religious blinders on.

I know many old school conservative who strongly believe as I do in a firm line of separation between church and state. They base their conservative arguments in fact and precedent not in a religious myth. I deeply respect their position. They are thinking, reasoning men and women. Not hysterics.

Making a factual argument I think is always welcome here.

What isn't welcomed or respected are those that discount others to the point of not even bothering to read their posts because they are not Christians. Or more accurately not Christians according to their judgments.

What isn't welcome by me and will surely be called out? Name calling, hysteria, double standards, condemnation of others based only on assumptions about others sexual orientation or religion, poor research, repetitive posts, hatred, double standards and small mindedness.

When I arrived on these boards there were a few who are like me socially liberal and fiscally conservative that contacted me and thanked me for speaking up on these boards. I continue to get mail, although not on this site but on my private email which I have shared, from readers here who have likewise thanked me for not putting up with the bullies crap.

I don't want to be on a board where everyone agrees with me.

I do however want to be somewhere where people can make sound fact based arguments and where there is at least a modicum of respect for others. Even for those you don't agree with. I also want to be on a board where enforcement of the user agreement is sanely and evenly enforced. Obviously there are some issues here. Oh well...staying because I am a stubborn old lady. haha

How can one debate when many conservatives live by a book written hundreds of years ago by who knows who, interpreted by those with an agenda, while the rest of us live and learn by experiencing life. You can't debate with an imovable object, although when I have tried I realized I probably had one to many.

It's actually refreshing not to be out numbered by conservatives, it's taken me years to find this site and that was pure accident. As soon as I am out numbered I will leave. Hmmm, that seems to be exactly what the radical right would like.

So they must get baptising those new babies before they find out they might have a choice in life. The only way to be rid of free thinking people is to out number them. Why do you think abortion is such an issue with the right? More live ones to convert and out number those they dispise.

I don't see anyone else posting the bible, verse by verse. So I dont see how you could say anyone else is shoving anything down your throat of any other religion. Go back and take a look. : )

Doesn't matter what the issue is their retort is always the same in the end.

Name calling, the assertion theirs is the only right and moral position and then the tried and true "because the bible tells me so" line.

This along with a stunningly consistent ability to ignore facts or proofs even when they are placed before them.

Even more disturbing are those that comment on threads without even reading the posts.

To them I say this. Cling to your prejudices, hatred and limited thinking all you want and post it all please. Your true colors show. Your pathetic meanness shines through.
