Topic: So, what video games got you into becoming a gamer? | |
---|---|
Hmm..pac man and pong when I was a youngling and then sonic then mario, donkey kong country, sonic the hedgehog, quake, doom, wolfenstein, etc.
*pats his PS3* I don't play games all that much anymore but I still love them and find time to play em now and then. |

My gaming history goes back to the age when Commodore 64 with cassette drive was the hottest sh** anywhere. I recall Giana Sisters and Pacman were some of my favourites.
Next upgrade was 486 SX 66MHz, that gave me the introduction on FPS's. Doom, Hexen, ROTT etc. But what really triggered the strange passion on me to actually WAIT a game release, and saving money like crazy to upgrade my computer to make sure I can play the game with everything maxed out, was S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Clear Sky. God, 600$ for the video card, and 120$ for a power unit to cope with the need for watts just to play a 50$ game? It wasn't crazy then, for some reason.. |

Like others here, I played Pong when it was new and toyed with all the other famous games from the start. But I didn't really become a "gamer" until Wolfenstein, followed by Doom. And everything else came after that. My favorite FPSs are still Half Life, Deus Ex and Serious Sam. The game I've played (and still play) the most consistently and continuously over the years is Diablo II LoD.

Evercrack....er Everquest haha Down with eq! Sorry tried it and hated it. I don't know the whole losing XP when you die thing was never really something I enjoyed. Now wow, on the other hand... =P I'm just busting chops. The game that started my addiction was wolfinstein. A neighbor turned me onto it. After that it was doom and diablo. Cannot wait for diablo III!!! |

The game that made me realize I enjoyed gaming, plus the first game I ever played, was the original Super Mario Bros for the NES. The game that inspired me to be a gamer would have to be Sonic the Hedgehog for the Sega Genesis, though. Such awesome games at such a highly competitive time.

pong Ha ha, that's the one that started it all for me too! We had a dedicated pong machine, then the commodore 64 came out, then the Amiga (I didn't own either but my friends did). Then I managed to convince my parents to buy me an Atari Lynx the Christmas that it came out and the rest as they say is history. The two game franchises that I have always liked are Metal Gear Solid and Grand Theft Auto, hopefully part 4 of both will be in my Christmas stocking, thanks to my Kris Kindle :) |

There will never be a series of games quite like Donkey Kong Country 1, 2 and 3.

I got my first console, a Super NES, for Christmas 1993...
A few weeks later, I successfully lobbied to quit school, which is another story altogether...and it had nothing to do with video games...But my parents thought I was being ungrateful, until they started to piece the whole story together. Those mid-1990s were my old-school gaming years...what a magical era. |

Lol, would you believe Zork on the TRS-80 Computer? I loved those "text only" adventures! I spent weeks writing my own.
Also had the Atari 2600. Frogger on the Commodore 64 Then Leisure Suit Larry on the IBM PC XT. Nothing like sexy girls in 4 color graphics. |
