how do you seek solace?

If the believers have their gods, and use him/her/it for comfort in times of stress (deaths, marriages, divorce, etc) how do you deal with it.

I personally go to work.
I am lucky that my work forces me to relax and concentrate on my slow breathing rate.

This forces my blood pressure down and I come out from a day at work chilled and ready to logically deal with things.

I have only ever been addicted to caffeine - I dislike feeling drunk or stoned, so that has never been an issue, and I dont go a bundle of chocolate.
So I dont think I have an addictive personality to use alcohol or drugs. But I know some people who have.

Good question Belushi. I hide inside silent words written, read or thought. Sometimes I flush my sinuses with a sea tears until I sleep.

When I wake, if a solution has not come to me, I set about the routine that is my life. I think, I smile, I sing, I seek friendly voices or a game of pool. At some point I have become determined once again to continue on this journey called life with an open mind and a giving heart.

I find this method a quick and independently assertive way of dealing with myself. I walk into the future without any question as to why some universial power has let me down, or why I deserve such.

Life is life, if you intend to live it, best get on with it as soon as you can, without any added guilt or questions.

I seek solace in doing things that I enjoy. Kind of a fake it til you make it approach! Pretend like its all good until it is all good! I make sure that I focus on the things that make me happy instead of dwelling on the negative!flowerforyou

In a word - responsibility.

If something is screwy in my life I take a look, well, am I responsible for this misery? Yes, then I set out to change my habits or whatever it is I'm doing to be retarded. (Which I'm retarded more often than I would like.)

If no, then I try and figure out where the responsibility lies. If it's something I can affect, I try, but I know I won't always be successful and that's all I really can do.

I remember that I can't change or control the world and kind of roll with the punches. The only control I have is over myself so that's what I focus on. I also endeavor to stay optimistic. Definitely easier said than done but at the same time it's worth the struggle. Other people feed off of that optimism and so it effects my environment. I avoid negativity like the plague. (Including negative people.)

That's my coping mechanism.

The best stress relief is sex in my opiniondrinker

but if you can't get any then I would say go to sleep for a couple of hours. I do this when I have a headache.

if that doesn't work go to a club and dance your ass off. If you don't like clubs then go to a beautiful scenery alone and just enjoy what nature has to give you.

if that doesn't work rob a bank and make sure you have a ticket to brazil ahead of time so you can get away safely. Do it this on New Years when the Brazilian dance samba.

If that doesn't work buy a dog. A man's best friend is a dog. They always bring a smile on someones face.

if that doesn't work......... just joking.

Everyone is different but I always try to do something creative to have the least amount of stress possible.

I sleep, didn't always but upon suggestion from a friend I tried it and now that is what I do if I feel stressed.

I take some chamomile tea, it is very relaxing. Coffee just makes it worse, for me anyway.

I have heard some say they meditate, but that just makes me want to do anything but...

A good stress reliever for me is laughter, make me laugh and it lasts me for days..

And being there for each other, who ever said that was right on, it always helps when you have others to vent with or just to be there.

I get stoned or drunk. I don't like the aftermath of one two many pints but it's legal. I prefer to get high/stoned but alas it's illegal. I humorously believe that religious folks keep me from my preferred method of stress reduction as to limit my options and hope I will come to their flock.

I just normally "drown" myself in one of my hobbies.
I'll either just sit and write lyrics. or I'll build another model car, or I'll hand paint another die-cast. or, if none of that works, I'll turn on my music, and just let my mind wonder.

I pick up my Saxophone and wail the blues!

I put on some Bob Marley and break out my hand drums and keep beat.

I walk outside and go on a hike through the woods with my dog.

Just watching nature, my dog, the birds, the fish.

We are connected to our reality, and sometimes you just need perspective to see it and feel it.
