Than the sword?
Is it because words live on forever? |
|
|
|
because when written in pen it's harder to erase.
words and actions live forever - so speak kindly |
|

Well I think I know what you mean...although what you said are parts of two different sayings.
The pen is mightier than the sword. and Actions speak louder than words. However....words are something that, once they are spoken, you can never take them back. The effect of words can be forever. |

|
so can the effects of a sword
|

Ok look- the saying is,
" the penis - mightier than the sword"- now THAT makes sense. |

That why I use a pencil...... |

Maybe because for some people (like me) they can express themselves better when writing as opposed to expressing themselves verbally.

so can the effects of a sword |

I think it's symbolic. Ideas are mightier than violence.
V: Beneath this mask there is more than flesh. Beneath this mask there is an idea, Mr. Creedy, and ideas are bulletproof. While violence can end violence, an idea can live forever. |

I think its simply because something written down can outlast the elements and the ravages of time. You can look at the bible as an example of this or the great enormous stone tablets that the ancient Sumerians wrote their religious mythology upon (pre-dating the bible and Christianity). When something is expressed non-verbally and preserved as a snapshot of ancient philosophy and human feeling, it can then be found once again and read and understood.
Aside from that which is primarily the perspective of an archeologist, I just dont know. |

The "pen" is mightier than the sword because it conveys information and propaganda which shapes the attitudes and minds of individuals.
The minds of individuals form a collective mind, or a group think. This group think manifests reality. All things come into reality via the mind and the imagination first. Then it is manifested into reality. All new inventions are formed first within the mind. Yesterday "the pen" was the scribe who wrote scriptures which had enormous power. People believed that if it was written, then it must be true. Hence the phrase, "It is written..blah blah blah...followed by some prophecy or law from God. Then the next greatest invention was the printing press, which shaped minds in mass. To have a best selling book gave a person prestige and fame. Newspapers were the strongest force for shaping minds and opinions. Today, "the pen" is supplemented and replaced by television and the Internet. Lets all bow our heads now and thank God for the Internet. Or shall we thank Al Gore? (He claims he invented it.) |

the sword action attacks individuals one at a time
the pen reaches the masses the sword creates fear of death the pen just offers suggestions fear of death causes discontent offering a suggestion causes thought process discontent makes one irate thought process makes one creative irate usually makes enemies creativity may or may not make an enemy or an ally enemies makes on fear for their life an ally makes one more comfortable (and indifference doesn't matter) so the sword creates enemies the pen wins more allies at less cost |

because you can poke someone in the eye with a pen and its not as large or noticable as a sword....

I was thinking to myself last night that the ideal situation is the sword working in conjunction with the written word. That was the modus operandi of Christianity and it was quite successful for them.
"Ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you." Christians get whatever they ask for in prayer evidently. |
