No, I do not think social services should be eliminated. What's that quote? The measure of a society is how it chooses to care for those who cannot care for themselves?

I don't think education alone determines how hard a person works. There is unique value in the work each part of a system does. This is easily illustrated by looking at say the production of corn. Look at all the the hands that lend in it's production. Not just the farmer works. The scientist that perfects the seed, the pesticide and the fertilizer. The truckerss that deliver those products. The mechanics who work on the trucks and in the plants that make them. The accountants who manage all different parts of the financial process. The list goes on. If just one or two of those hard working cogs are removed the corn is not produced. Who works the hardest? That's debatable.

To give everyone an equal opportunity at an education I would fund each student equally. Every public school should receive an equal share per student to start with. The answer to this one is complex but that would be a good start I think.

those that cannot care for themselves should be left to the sick, children, elderly, and the mentally challenged... those that cannot physically help themselves due to lacking the mental or physical capacity. not families that are more than capable of holding a job. welfare needs to go away. medicare needs to be revamped to get rid of the $60 billion in fraud yearly.

I have no issue helping those that cannot help themself but if you can? tough sh*t.

and education is not going to fix disparity. drive and personal motivation are far larger influences than throwing money at education.

I wonder when do you think a person would develop motivation? Would it begin in a school that is underfunded with pi** poor teachers, would i begin when you were born to a family that barely has enough food to feed their children? Or is it some divine gift so therefore only a lucky few will be Self Motivated? The bootstrap theory only works if you have boots.

Motivation is something that takes work as well. I have had my days when I didn't want to do anything, but I did. I did because I am a single mother, and that's what single mothers do. We suck it up and do it.

Sometimes the motivation is not always the first part of moving forward, it's telling yourself, "I'm GOING to do this, no matter what" and then doing it. Once a person have gone past one huge obstacle, they can look back knowing that they made it this far, and keep going off of motivation.

Well tithing in the bible said the rich had to take 10 percent of their wealth and share it with the poor of their village,Right?

Then why the F**K do we have to take 25% more than the poor pay to distribute to the poor? (in case you don't know math, that's 35%-10%=25%)

So, our good deed to the poor has been more than paid for quite some time now with how many years we have been paying more than 10%, right?

I was asking about the bible and did not account for inflation.Get a grip.

WRONG!!!!

Lindyy

sorry your wrong. It was the farmers who were to share 10 percent of their food and have a feast for the village.Non agricultural jobs were not required to tithe.I was being a smart ass to Giacomo and the Neocon twins swooped in.

In that case, you need to post in the religious forum. Either way, the 'rich' are still paying much more than 10% to the 'poor'. That's my point.

Is it fun for you two to keep putting people down?

how are you supposed to feel superior if you can't look down on people?

I wouldn't know. I've never felt superior to anyone or had a desire to feel that way.

If you have never felt superior, why do you expect people to hand you their hard-earned money just because you are not young anymore and you have children?

That was rude.I'm middle aged and young is a mental state.Don't go to age for your argument.I work a full time job and raise a special needs son.I pay taxes just like you and guess what some goes to the welfare moms.I'm not bitter about that because we all know it's the kids who suffer when the parents hit hard times.I don't have time for college as my son has needs but I resent you thinking I want to pick your pocket because I am in a lower tax bracket. If you make more, you should pay more and if it helps a fellow American out ,then you should be proud to do so.I know Winx and I are.
Apparently on your way to the top you forgot where you came from.

To me all these anti tax folks crying about the poor getting a nickle or two from the governmnet is laughable being that the poor tax payers just bailed out the billionairs and they also had lavish parties and gave themselves bonuses for their failures. zero credability in my book

OK, if you were referring to me, it was WINX that made a comment about older and with children (making it seem impossible for those to do any better in their lives)- not me. I have posted many times about how I DO help those less fortunate, sometimes monetarily and sometimes by giving my time. I never said that I DONT want to pay taxes. I never said that I am not proud to help people. I have said the opposite of most of what you are accusing me of saying.

I have argued that more than 1/3 of a person's paycheck should be sufficient for helping those less fortunate, but I still do more than that.

As for the bashing, I think you guys (you and WINX, along with some others) have done your fair share. Now it's time to get over it, and move on.

A nickel? or two?

Oh, wow, have you got that wrong. I have done taxes for a living. I have seen first-hand how much people get back - up to $6,000 above what they had even paid into taxes that year.

That means, they paid NO taxes AT ALL, and got back that much money, but some had only made up to $14,000 that year. So, basically, they got over 5 months of salary in an instant just because the wealthier paid their taxes.

And again, taxes for a living, I have also done corporate taxes, and witnessed a QUARTERLY check written for 162,000. If you multiply, that's 648,000 in one year for a corporation that was receiving just over 1.7M. If you take into consideration, that corporation was receiving just over 2.75 times what they paid in taxes. They then have to continue to depreciate, save, upgrade to continue running, and pay the bills.

I have seen both sides, and I am just saying, the taxes paid in are pretty fair for the people not earning much money.

Again, I did not say that being older makes it
IMPOSSIBLE to do better in life. Drew was talking about working at McDonald's as a teenager and he did better for himself.

I told him that it was more DIFFICULT when a person is older (not a teenager) and has children. I said that it is difficult to put food on a table when making min. wage and you have children.

Lildevilsmom did not bash you here.

I would call that a bash. If you guys are going to dish it, then you need to be able to take it.

I would like for this to just end, but you guys keep going and going. Will this end? Are you going to be done soon? I WILL prove my points and if you are going to say something that is rude to me, you may want to expect the same back.

I post on many threads and you telling me that I am stalking you, laughing about someone saying that I have a crush on you, and all those little jokes are pretty juvenile. If you are a christian, act like one.

If you want it to end, then quit starting it!! We are just defending ourselves.

What you quoted about her is not a bash, IMO. I think she was giving you a honest assessment. It's what you have been saying that gives us that perception.

If I am a Christian, act like one? What?! You're my mother now?

Haven't you heard, laughing releases the tension? Being silly can be fun?
