(Sorry about the damned, if it is too hairy of a term feel free to edit it with the ever so notable ****** if needs be mods.)

What is your view on pulling the plug on someone who is braindead, or someone that made the choice stemming from a mortal illness?

depends, on how long they've been a limp noodle and if they have a chance to recover or not.

I could never ever do it for one of my family members. I could never get over the guilt. And if I am ever in the situation, I'm not putting that burden on my family either. It's just not fair or right in my opinion.

It's totally in the hands of the person on the machine. What they've chosen before.

I do believe in miracles. So it would be hard for me to pull it.

Wouldn't be fair to my friends and family if I was the one on the table. I would not want to be THE burden.

I would never subject those that I love to a long and painfully slow.....not death....suffering of nothingness.

For my own selfish reasons....I would not want to lay and atrophy within my own skin if I couldn't be with those I love or even do the things that fufill my life...Art, eating good food, laughing, smiling being truly happy..

If I can't experience anything...what is the point.

Please note: this is simply my personal perspective.

Peace

What if they are braindead? And never made the decision before they went braindead?

I don't think I could make that decision.

Why not leeave the plug in and smother them with a pillow.

I do not wish to linger in comatose or brain dead state for an indeterminate amount of time. I went ahead and did the "Living Will" which I recommend to anyone. Once its done, its done and that way, no one will have to worry about what your final wishes were. You never know, you might get hit by a bus crossing the street tomorrow. I feel as humans, we ALL have a right to dignity and self determination.

Wow..serious subject here. I've lived it. My older brother and I had to make that decision for my middle brother. We both agreed that it had to be done, based on lots of factors. However, when it came down to it, I simply could not sign my name to the paper. I just kept thinking what if he lives and finds out I signed his life away? Fortunately for us, it only took one signature and my brother was willing to shoulder the burden. It was one of the single most heartbreaking times of my life. I gave it up to God, as I really had no where else to turn at that moment.

Better tech now, but I wouldn't want it. Brain dead, no hope of recovery.

Sure there were a couple cases of people waking up after coma's of many many years.

But they've found out that those people were awake a long time and some strange paralysis was preventing the people from realizing they were awake. The mind woke up in a frozen body.

That was in part due to less tech and because these people were supposedly in a coma but were surviving w/o life support. So the hospital kept them alive, assuming the person would never wake up, and not seeing the attempts at communication.

This is RARE. Personally, for me, pull the plug.
